  • i know photos dont always tell the truth but can this frame be saved ? http://picasaweb.google.co.uk/zoomout66/Simoncini#

  • Nope, Conti Ultrasport. It's time to administer the lethal injection I'm afraid.

  • &

  • must make clear this aint mine. its on the bay and these are extra pix. im thinking of saving it but dont know if the rust looks too severe

  • Depends on the price.

  • i'll answer the question with a question:

  • it's pretty far gone. you'd probably have to see it in person to see how deep the rust is. if you want to save it, it won't be cheap... stripping, beadblasting, copying the decals, respray...

  • ill prob take a punt on 20 quid, and just clean it, paint it and hang it on the wall! tho groupo looks like shimano 600 so it maybe worth saving those.

  • that rear end is tight, and thus worth one million pounds in hipster taX.

  • bit of a risk, but if you can get it for cheap, go for it, but get the frame checked first.

  • that rear end is tighter than your head in a vice, and thus worth one million pounds in hipster taX.

Any thing would have been better than what was actually written.
    -repped.

  • Strange, I though that Simoncini frames have nickel protection under the paint to prevent rust.
Was this bike stored in a salt mine?

  • 105 cranks and Suntour shifters does not a 600 groupset make

  • Should've looked like mine

  • that rear end is tighter than a ten year old girl, and thus worth one million pounds in hipster taX.

  • Oh, Boggy...
You will be punished to ride this rusty bike without a saddle.

  • look at the lugs on that!

    Should've looked like mine

  • Im getting mixed signals here boys and girlz. still worth a punt on 20 quid tho i will be having a look at it this sat/sun. Admittedly not full shim 600 groupo but the bits as a whole prob worth the score. In the scheme of prestige, where does the Simoncini come in relation to the colnagos, pinarello's etc etc. Bottom, high or mid end?

  • £20 is nothing, get it, strip it down, and either check the frame yourself or give it to a reputable bike shop to get it checked out.

if the frame's is too ruined to ride, least you got some 600 groupset that'd cost more than £20 on ebay.

  • That bubbling of the paint/rust around the bottom bracket area is the most ominous thing about the frame. It looks like rust that has eaten through from the inside.
    Everything else is surface rust.
You could replace the scalloped downtube though, and it would probably be sound.
Depends what you want to pay for the renovation.

  • even with the renovation, it'd still be cheaper than a brand new one with those feature.

  • Thats the one picture that concerned me. Like i said i will be looking at the frame this weekend so will get better idea. The seller says it is surface rust but it does look heavy in the pictures.

I'm not quite sure. As I said, those frame are nickeled (just like a new car), so any rust would be from the inside. Basically - rust with flaky paint to hold it together.

WTF did you really just say that?

Wheres the daily mail, we need a paedo lynching here.

  • I can't believe I hasn't notice the 10 years old girl bits, what the fuck? ugh!
