Get a magnet, touch it against the frame and the seatpost. If the frame is steel and the post is aluminium, you're probably in for a bit of a job. Otherwise you should try applying some HTFU.

A quick question, my girlfriend got one of those old dutch vintage ladies bikes, and the saddle post is too high, its rusted in, ive tried bangin it with a hammer and all kinda oils n shit, but no work,
any tips how to lower the post before gettin a new bike ?
