Power strap x which pedal pedal?

Posted on
  • can any one recommend a pedal to go with the power straps? i was looking at the
High Performance Pedal kit @ $69.95 here:
    http://powergrips.mrpbike.com/fs_show_items.php?category_id=1&brand_id=524
but i can only find the straps on there own on uk websites!
i'm looking for something similar decent quality for around price but they must be available on line in the uk as i need them pretty quick as i need to get out on my bike :)
    cheers

  • You could perhaps look at buying them separately maybe, as an idea. Then the world is your pedal oyster. It depends on your ride, but Wellgo's seem to be the go.
They fit on most pedals with a bit of jiggery pokery.
UTFS and or and you'll see how others have done it.

  • ok thanks, the ride is a fuji track
i'm looking at these are they all decent? got a recommendation? i'm leaning towards the mks streams are they a good choice for general road use & will the power grips go on them fine?
    MKS Sylvan Track Pedals

    MKS Sylvan Stream Pedals

Wellgo LU 939 Alloy Flat Pedals

  • Search for "Power Grips" you will find loads of info to trawl through.

  • And I would also recommend not buying them and going for a different brand.
if you do buy them check the nuts and bolts to make sure they aren't coming loose.

  • @ Aroogah i have been searching but there's so much conflicting info, i just want pointing in the right direction

@ scrapper what would you suggest?
basically i just bought my first fixed gear bike (Fuji track) and went for a little run up the road and it completely freaked me out being strapped in not that i could get them on properly any way :(
it's years since i had a bike and then i only ever road bmx's so jumping on a fixed road bike was really off putting,
i wanted to give the power straps a try to learn on while i get used to riding fixed before i give up and buy a freewheel cog
or could toe clips (no strap) be a better idea?

  • If you don't like being 'strapped in' I would consider trying to borrow some clipless pedals with a big platform and some clipless shoes, much easier to get your feet in and out.
I would buy a freewheel anyway - get used to riding the actual bike and how it feels before going fixed, I found it a much more enjoyable experience. (make sure you run two brakes though)

Also you're named after my boyfriend's brown sauce (no that's not a euphomism http://www.lfgss.com/thread39263.html)

  • i like brown sauce got any left? :D
thanks for the info btw i thought the clipless shoes and pedals would be worse, but i don't know any one who as any to try anyway

  • power grips fit on all of those mks pedals.

  • The ones that come with Powergrips as a package are the wellgo's above

  • The ones that come with Powergrips as a package are the wellgo's above

so they are :) are the any good?

@ joelovesfixed(2) i prefer the look of the mks but i've just read in another thread that there too small?

  • does any one think toe clips might be a better option?

  • The MKS Sylvan track have too big a gap on the back for the powergrips to go on. You can find some big washers to use, but you're better off going for one of the other two. MKS have smoother bearings than Wellgos, but there's not much in it. They're both fine.

Power grips are a lot easier than clips and straps, but they do sag and stretch after a while, becoming a bit of a pain in the arse, so you'll have to replace them fairly often.

I went to toe clips on one bike and clipless on the others. Clipless is best for me, but everyone's different, Toeclips with double straps are pretty good too as they keep their shape better than single straps.

  • I was thinking about the mks straples toe clips, I know the straps and pedals on the fuji are shit but I really strugled with them! So I want to stay clear of clips and straps for the time been,
there cheep enough so I supose I can buy both the power straps & the toe clips and see which I prefer
    cheers

  • shit, sorry for saying that they fitted, i thought they did

  • i like brown sauce got any left? :D

    What size are your feet?
and, no brown sauce at the moment, but he is making another batch - it goes without saying that you buy some of your namesake.
