Quest Rosa Track Wheels

  • Does anyone have a picture of what these look like? Seems a pretty good deal, but their website has 'image coming soon' and google / here seems to lack results...

    Cheers!

  • Silly answer. Deleted, as someone might have taken me seriously. ;)

  • Are they any good? Seem a really good deal for the price...

  • Personally I don't know if they're any good, but I DO know that shop only deals in quality stuff, and supply actual racer-types. I don't think they'd want to ruin their reputation over a set of track wheels.

  • I was just wondering if anyone had any feedback on this wheelset, in particular how they rate against on-one's track wheels (http://www.on-one.co.uk/i/q/WPOOPOMP/on-one-120mm-clincher-wheels-(pair)#Acomment) ? I'm looking for a cheap and durable set of track wheels for my first conversion.

  • They're just cheap wheels, sturdy and cheap.

It's all much of a muchness around that price point, most of the parts are the same but branded differently.

Though it's worth noting that the combined weight of the on-one wheels is: 1925g
and the quest wheels weigh: 2246g

  • most of the parts are the same but branded differently...weight of the on-one wheels is: 1925g

Either they are the same, or they are different enough to account for over 300g of weight difference (or maybe somebody is being economical with the truth in their claimed weight...)

  • According to quest, their Rosa's aren't quite the same as Pro-lite's Rosa's -

'Our Rosa wheels are made to our spec by Pro Lite but are different to the Pro Lite version. Our's use small flange sealed bearing hubs and the same rims as our Como road wheels.'

That account for why quest have them on their website at 1900, not as 2kg + as on the pro-lite website. Anyway, seeing as on-one have sold out till dec 15th, it looks like the decision has been made for me.

Any feedback on these wheels? Im looking at getting some.

  • Do you actually want a front wheel that has only 24 spokes and a 28 spoke rear? Good maybe if you weigh 11 stone or less, or aren't going to abuse them on pot-holed streets. For more normal (non-race) use, I'd suggest maybe the V-Sprint wheelset from Varno (who is on this forum). Other options are listed in the Wheelsets List

Really? All those people, including me at 14.5st, who run Shimano RS wheels with 16/20 spokes, including off road, are just extremely lucky?

  • I'm much heavier and used 20/24 Quest Como wheels on my commute sans any kind of maintenance for 2 years. They're stiff and spin well, but a bit heavy. Great wheels for £80, would buy them over aksiums any day.

Spoke count is not always directly related to strength/longevity

  • It was only a suggestion, to be viewed as that only.

Of course anyone that wishes to argue that a 16 spike wheel may be as strong as a 32 spoke wheel, when both are built to a high standard, are welcome to do so. I however, would not bother with such a debate. Good luck with that.

  • Ok... that wasn't really my point, though.

Depends on the rims and spokes in question though mate....

  • Ah, but if that wheel was also available with same rim, hub and spokes but with 32 spokes instead of 20 it would be stronger wouldn't it?

I suppose the point is that if the 20 spoke wheel is strong enough then why add more.

  • Ah, but if that wheel was also available with same rim, hub and spokes but with 32 spokes instead of 20 it would be stronger wouldn't it?

    Would it?

Or would the added spoke holes in both the rim and hub actually make it weaker? but yeah, it's already bomb proof.

  • What if two of the extra spokes were traitors? What then?

  • RPM, are they much different or better than black Shamals?

  • What if two of the extra spokes were traitors? What then?

    Hanging

  • RPM, are they much different or better than black Shamals?

I can't answer that properly as I have no experience of the black shamals, I only know that people who have the silver shamals love them, and most people who have these love them (even if they are a bit heavy)
Think I've only seen a couple of people with the black shamals racing, they are fairly rare?
