  • OK so my crankset/BB/chainline is all out and i'm looking at replacing the lot. Basically i bought the bits when i wanted to get my bike on the road and was not aware that ISIS splines would cause me such a headache and limit my choice, my FAIL i know.

Anyway is anybody running the "Lasgo" crankset from Velosolo - it's £35 and looks like the Sugino messenger. I UTFS and found a thread with a guy asking the same question but nothing about actually install and use.

So basically are they worth a punt, for £35 plus a 103mm BB and a shiny new chain and cog i can get shot of my current setup and have a straight chainline for once?!?

  • I bought a set of these a couple weeks ago, they seem alright.
Thought they were fecked after i got hit by a car but turned out the bb was just working itself loose, replaced it and they feel great again.
The finish is a bit shonky, rough edges n such but you could sort that in an hour with a file n some wet n dry if you desired.
You can probably spend ages trawling the classifieds and ebay and find some decent 2nd hand 165mm cranks for that price but i wanted 130bcd cranks and fast so these fit the bill perfectly.

  • Ah cheers for that, good to know someone is actually running them. As for the finish i wondered about powder coating at Armortex, can't be much for a crankset surely?

  • PM Edmundro, I think the ones you're talking about are the ones on his girlfriend's bike. I was asking about them last night and he said they're sound as a pound. Perfect chainline with a formula hub too.

  • Yeah, they've done the job just fine for the money. To be fair, Liz doesn't punish her bikes in the way some do on here so it may not be comparable.
No doubt they won't stand up to the same punishment as 75's but at that price, who cares?
Chainring is a little flimsy but nothing like as cheap as the one on fsa veros etc.
I'd happily get a set if i needed some.

And yep, bang on chainline with the tange bb from velosolo and forumula/system ex hub with andel/surly cog.

But yeah, the finishing is pretty cheap....

  • As for powder. Armourtex have a minimum charge so get in on a group buy if you're not doing other parts as well...

  • I got some of these for my girlfriends bike when I built it. 7 months (ridden everyday) later and they're still solid. Recommended.

  • oh and because you've got off lightly so far. HTFU ;)

  • Are you talking about the "Lasco" chainset, not "Lasgo"?
If so then I can agree with everyone above, I've had a set for about 4 months and they are holding up great, especially for the money. I weigh 14 stone and I'm not exactly gentle with my bike either.

Yeah Lasco sorry, think Lasgo did cheesy 90's pop trance didn't they?!?

  • Can't order one till the 18th as they're shut for easter, suppose it stops me spending money this week!

  • needs a donk on it.

they are good shop when open.

  • get nice little notes.

  • get nice little notes.

    ^Agreed.

and yes I'm running them too, seem alright, not that round but still do the job. Interestingly, my BB seems to keep working itself loose as well, but I'm sure it's just coincidence...

  • Just ordered the Sugino Messenger set & BB, dunno if I'd trust something so cheap.....

  • .

  • Yeah thanks for all your input on the Lasco guys, i went through to Tokyo fixed on Friday evening after work and splashed out on the Miche Advanced - couldn't bring myself to buy a £35 crankset in the end, damn money spending willpower pissed into the wind again!

  • quitter

  • I bought one two weeks ago.
It's just been fitted on the bike (and really looks great), so I'll wait a bit and post a review after some time.
    I'll give it a hard time ;)

  • I have been using one of these on my commuter beater. seems to be ok. bit of a clicking noise occasionally coming from the bottom bracket but when i can be bothered i will take it apart, regrease and reinstall - doesnt seem to affect anything tho.

Been using it for 5 months, it seems to be fine and has tolerated some nasty pedal strike on curb incidents. Overall - a good budget chainset. bought mine from byercycles.com which came with bb, cranks and chainring for just over £40

  • Tempted as I've just twisted the crank arm on my "beater" (it gets more love than my "proper" bikes). Need something cheap and cheerful, but strong :)

I did read that due to the finishing they might not necessarily sit onto the BB as far as they perhaps should though.

Time to re-read up on chain line...
