I've been thinking about this for a while and now the league is in the closing stages, it seems a good time to propose it.
How about a throw-in league with matches played at the same time, same court every week (something like Sunday 10am, Newington)? Everyone turns up the first week and throws their mallet in. Teams get decided. If the number of mallets thrown in is not divisible by 3 then the leftover(s) are still a team, they can use subs (as outlined later).
It's a turbo league because the teams are split randomly into divisions of a minimal number of teams. 15 teams = 3 divisions of 5 teams. Each team plays the other teams in their division once, one game per week. Then there is a play-off week where the top teams in each division play each other to determine a winner (probably round robin and then a final). This means the league would only run for 6 weeks maximum (depending on team numbers you might get a rest week - also take rest weeks for tournaments). The winners win the right to stay together for the next season which starts the week after.
It would work with a flexible sub policy. You can use up to two subs but they must not be from your division. Anyone who is willing to sub must throw-in and the subs will be decided randomly. If nobody from your team shows up one week, you forefit the game but the team you are playing against must play a friendly Vs a throw-in team to get the points (makes sure everyone gets a decent game).
I figure 15 minute games using current league rules but allow draws rather than golden goals. Minimum of fuss. We could start on 2nd May and get 3 or 4 seasons in before the next proper league. It's totally inclusive, means you get to play regularly with new people, competitive and lets new players into the game.
Don't worry about formatting, just type in the text and we'll take care of making sense of it. We will auto-convert links, and if you put asterisks around words we will make them bold.
Tips:
Create headers by underlining text with ==== or ----
To *italicise* text put one asterisk each side of the word
To **bold** text put two asterisks each side of the word
Embed images by entering: ![](https://www.google.co.uk/images/srpr/logo4w.png) That's the hard one: exclamation, square brackets and then the URL to the image in brackets.
* Create lists by starting lines with asterisks
1. Create numbered lists by starting lines with a number and a dot

For syntax highlighting, surround the code block with three backticks:

Just like Github, a blank line must precede a code block.

Decent idea? Anyone interested?
