eye wear is a good thing, i wear lenses and have trouble without wearing protection.
good luck at the A&E -

Thanks - I had it removed last night, I have a patch on for 24hours and then some antiseptic drops for a few days. Luckily it was only just in the surface, so no real damage.

yeah. I couldn't stop thinking about Clockwork Orange when the guy was doing it. Fair play to anyone who's had a serious eye op.

Great advantage of poor eyesight is the necessity to wear eye protection. Goggles on, mouth closed, no insect worries.

my friend was cycling along once and a bee flew up his nose and stung him. amazingly he didn't crash but his face was the size of a football for about 3 days afterwards

Ive found that specs usually creates some sort of swirling air currents around them which channel and direct crap into the eyes.
Obviously this wouldnt be an issue with wrap-around sports glasses.

Nemesis safety specs in amber: I use tham all the time, day or night. They fit well around the eye, so no bits blown in by the wind. They are shatter resistant and UV blockers.
Look OK and only cost £6: Fixed.http://abweldingsupplies.co.uk/catalogue/index.php?catSection=safety&page=p105

I often end up with midges or other tiny flies in my eyes...I've lost count of the times that a bee has flown in my eye and i've closed it involuntarily at the last second with scary ninja skills and its just bounced off my eyelid. Still hurts though. But I am a petty weakling.

This reminds me...
Last year I received a bug in my eye whilst cycling home, I couldn't get it out and it was possibly the most irritating feeling ever. And so, after a 4 hour wait (!!!) in the children's part of A&E (I was still 15 at the time and did not fit in with the babies), doctors didn't find anything and there was no damage to my cornea. Getting to sleep was hell. Lo and behold the next morning, I noticed a massive black thing in the corner of my eye! My mum took it out with a bit of tissue and my god, it was massive. I measured the beast and it was just over 1 fecking cm! -

I had a bit of rusty metal get lodged in my eye whilst out on the roads. At the A&E, watching the needle the doctor used, as it approached my eye, and as she picked away at my eye with it, was 'interesting' .

argghh no, this thread reminds me of getting kamikazed by a flying bug (no idea what it was, just know it was dead after hitting my forehead) while riding towards chelsea bridge 2 weeks ago, hit me bloody hard it felt like a stone.
i may have to invest in some shades too, even though this has never happened to me before.

I'm never riding my bike again.....
fuck this.
;-)
I once had a wasp hiding in my shoe, it inevitably stung my big toe.
I checked my shoes before i put them on for about a year after that.
Decided to go for a quick blast yesterday evening, pushing it somewhat for a couple of miles and a bug hits my right eye, I was doing about 25mph. Nothing unusual, pulled over, wiped my eye and continued, get home and notice bits of bug in the corner of my eye. They came out easily, then I notice a black dot sitting on the edge of my iris. it wouldn't budge using water and it was beginning to hurt - off to A&E for a 3 hour wait..followed by the removal of some kind of insect part embedded into my cornea with a sterilised needle! the anesthetic eye drops worked a treat, but try keeping your eye open with a needle coming towards it. Fun.
I might invest in some new shades.
