• lightweight 56cm f w evans 1970's track frame. no dents or dings. 100 spacing front 120 rear.

drilled front flat crown fork, undrilled rear

Seat post is stuck. Have tried plusgas, half cut it out by lock 7 but still has remnants of seat post in seat tube. I have tried to melt it with caustic soda but no luck. I think the last resort is to burn it out, but I've had enough of it now.

    Will need repainting hence £100.

  • Pics?

  • i dont have any with me i am afraid, I will try and put some up tonight

  • Coolio, I've had a nightmare with a stuck post as well, but curious to see if it's worth rescuing! 700c?

  • dibs pending picss

  • Seconds depending on pics

  • Caustic soda never fails, I had to do that to a frame I bought off Organicorigin which had EVERYTHING stuck in it (something that wasnt mentioned prior to purchase), might just take a while.... think my seatpost took two weeks and about 4-5 applications...

yeah it will probably work, but i always seem to make a mess doing it however careful i am and my gf isnt too happy about it so would be happy for it to go.

thanks, but lock 7 tried that and made a bit of a hash of it to be honest (they are very nice in there though) only options left noe are the caustic soda or blow torch methods

Just prop it up in the corner of your garden/shed/big cupboard and leave it be.. caustic soda isnt that toxic, pretty sure my cat drank some and i rubbed it in my eyes once or twice, stripped the varnish off my floor a little but was easily re varnished...

I did mine without even touching the paint, just need a bit of common sense and a steady hand, if it does splash on the paint, wipe it off quickly... I turned my frame upside down and blocked off the cut off seatpost with a coke bottle lid and poured the caustic soda in carefully through the bb shell... simple...

i tried to block it off with blue tack, real shame it ruined the paint, maybe it can be retouched? dont know.

anyway those with dibs send a PM

  • It would take a fair bit of work to retouch, if at all possible... might be though, nice looking frame at a decent price... I have mentioned this to a friend who is looking for a track frame in this size...

  • might strip it and have it raw, still available....

  • it's a really nice frame with orig paint job, re touch it and keep it, rawing it would be a sin....

  • undibs from me sadly

im sure someone else will do a better job restoring it to its former glory

  • I've bought something else now because I thought it would be gone! Off the list now

  • provisionally sold to cabbagetom.
