That stinks. How did you lock it and what lock did you use?
-

OK it's pretty much this (see pic) with tiny chopped risers (bent these drop bars somehow).
I had locked it up to a lamp-post with some ABUS cable lock. The metal component that connects the two ends was totally broken in two...
Building another beater for the moment - ugly enough that hopefully no one will want to nick.
Thanks for the support guys!

Yeah those cable locks are only meant for "securing" wheels/seats etc. You might find this useful when purchasing a new lock:

Thieves are opportunistic fuckers, if they spot a bike locked up using an inadequate lock they gonna take advantage of that... Getting your bike nicked sucks, but at the end of the day that's why decent locks are made and purchased by anyone who wants to keep their bike "safe". Anyway, I'm not going to get into this forum tit for tat shit. I'm sorry about your bike - but hopefully lesson learned.

@JPT: instead of a good lock i bought a shit bike yesterday. Cheers for trying to make it look like my fault though. Sheesh
Dude no one is saying it's your fault but 9 times out of 10, when someone has had a bike stolen it's because they've locked it up with washing line. It's a natural reaction to cringe at spending £40–£50 on a lock but if you do, you'll save replacing a bike worth three or four figures.
As the newspapers love to remind us, we live in Cambridge – Bike Crime capital of the UK.

I only speak from experiance, I had my BMX stolen from outside my flat on Hills Road (busy intersection) a few years ago and only a few months ago my girlfriend had her bike stolen from outside her house on Sturton Street.

"2,500 bicycles stolen there each year"
That's just the ones that get reported... I bet the actual number is much higher than that.

Supposed to be that you spend at least 10% of the cost of the bike on a lock i.e.
1000 quid bike you spend 100 quid on a lock
100 quid bike you spend 10 pounds on a lock -

im not the one to judge, i had my nag locked up with a 10pound halfords d lock and a 2 pound cable lock for 3 months.

I was told 20% of your budget on a lock... I guess it depends where you are gonna leave it..

where can you get them ?
if you manage to find a supplier, you should stock them on the stall.
I'd be well up for one!
My beater got nicked from outside the Zebra on Saturday night. Scoundrel smashed the lock to bits.
Not worth a lot, but would love to see her again. Raleigh frame sprayed black. distinctive features include:
Would appreciate it if you keep your eyes peeled. Small reward for safe(ish) return.
Cheers
