• Rare handbuilt track bike from the 1960's in very good original condition. Made at Ken Birds' (former Tour de France mechanic) shop from Reynolds 531 tubing incorporating very ornate lugs (poss nervex), thin rear seat stays and flat fork crown. Front and rear fork ends also very nicely finished - added bonus of mudguard eyelets (back in the day - I think - a track/path bike would be used for exactly that - track riding and for on the road...). Rear facing on the back for easy adjustment and tensioning etc etc...Original decals and dark orange/red paint still look good!

Sizing wise its 60cm c-c seat tube and 58cm c-c top tube - suit 5"11 and above approx depending on leg length. BB height approx 28cm from floor...

Original 27" wheels (slightly pitted) spinning true with large flange Brampton track hubs front and rear - rear is flip flop so can be ridden fixed or with a freewheel. Good Michelin tyres.

Super Custom Crankset (170). Running 48/18 (71.8) ratio. New 1/8 chain just fitted. Smooth BB.

SR stem and very nice old English deep drop track bars - freshly wrapped with Tessorex cloth wrap.

New Acor lever and cable. New brake pads. Original caliper. Italian Omas Headset - very smooth.

Original seatpost with a leather Brooks B17 Narrow saddle from 1975 just fitted - this is ready to be worn in and has seen very minimal use...

Also included are a spare brake caliper and 2 brake levers...

Its been given a thorough once over and is an absolute pleasure to ride.

    £375

    Enquiries very welcome. Cheers!

  • What bars are they?
I will take them if you split...
Obv try and sell it how you want to sell it first though!

  • nice frame, it has the look of an earlier period so chances are Ken just applied his own transfers at some time in the distant past.....he worked as manager for Hinds (Lewisham) and then Holdsworth's (Welling) in the 1960's then started his own business with his frame builder brother Alec sometime in the very early 70's when the Holdsworth shop closed

  • hey saxby's - good info - I was told it was probably built by his brother by the previous owner but there is always a little mystery when it comes to these kind of bikes from this era! cheers!
