• *[I]**This might be of interest to some of you on here, it's not a fixed ride or a fast ride but it's a nice route. I'm sure there will be lots of pretentious types as is normal for these kind of events but often that can add to the fun. Personally, I'm not really in the music biz but I arrange insurance for several clients in the industry and occasionally DJ so that's my in. ***

ANNUAL MUSIC BIZ CYCLE RIDE 2010[/I]

    • When?*
    • Sunday 18th April 2010*

    • What time?*

    • 9:45am for a 10am prompt start. Don't be late for load in!!! ;-)*

    • Where?*

    • A TOP SECRET LOCATION *

    • What is it?*

    • An all day social cycle ride for music biz types to meet up and have a*

    • natter (or grumble!) whilst seeing some of London's best sights from*

    • the saddle.*

    • Where are we going?*

    • We'll use a large part of the mainly traffic-free Jubilee Greenway. It*

    • starts by following the Thames to Tower Bridge and then round to*

    • Greenwich where we can stop for a coffee. Then we'll continue on the*

    • river path around the O2 Arena to the Woolwich Ferry and over the*

    • Thames to lunch at The Fox at ExCeL. From here it's a series of bike*

    • paths to the derelict Beckton Alps and then along the Greenway (on top*

    • of the Northern Outfall sewer pipe!) for an afternoon stop at the View*

    • Tube cafe overlooking the Olympic Stadium. We'll finish with a*

    • canalside ride past Victoria Park to Kings Cross and then through The*

    • City back to the London Eye. It's about 28 easy miles.*

    • Will I be able to keep up?*

    • If you regularly cycle to work and back then you'll be fine on this*

    • ride. It's not a race and it's not a training ride. We'll be going at*

    • the speed of the slowest rider. The emphasis will be on the social*

    • aspect rather than trying to get fit. Expect to be out all day. Feel*

    • free to opt out at any time.*

    • What is the terrain like?*

    • Flat! Mostly tarmac but the last bit is along the canal on a hard packed*

    • track.*

    • Who is organising it?*

    • It's organised by Mark Dawson who, as well as being a promoter rep,*

    • occasional tour manager and production manager, is also a qualified*

    • cycle instructor.*

    • Can anyone come?*

    • The ride is intended for anyone who works in the music biz in any*

    • capacity but feel free to bring your partner or a friend if you think*

    • you won't know anyone.*

    • Do I need to register?*

    • No. But it would really help if you emailed [edit]removed by Velocio at Mark's request[/edit] to*

    • say you are thinking of coming. If we're expecting loads of people, I*

    • might need to bring someone else along to help marshal us.*

    • What does it cost?*

    • Nothing! Just bring money for lunch. And bring lights because it'll*

    • get dark at some point. Oh, and bring a spare inner tube....!*

    • What about if it rains/snows/ thunders?*

    • The show must go on! Call Mark on [edit]removed by Velocio at Mark's request[/edit] if the weather is really bad.*

    • **PLEASE FORWARD THIS EMAIL TO ANYONE YOU KNOW IN THE INDUSTRY WITH A

    • BIKE!****

    • It would be really good if people can forward throughout their own*

    • companies, especially to those who ride to work*

  • Will Craig David be there?

  • Will Craig David be there?

Hopefully not (no offence braker, whatever floats your boat) but I expect Norman Jay will be out on his Raleigh Chopper

  • Marcos

This ride is exclusively for music industry people. Whilst you're welcome on the ride, I didn't give permission for this message to be posted on public forums. Can you arrange to have this post removed?

    Thanks
    Mark

  • This ride is exclusively for music industry people.

I know some people in the "music business" can I come along?

  • Did you get that? No riff-raff on this ride.

  • I've created a facebook event for this. Should I delete it?

  • What's wrong with riffs?

  • What's wrong with riffs?

no raffs without any riffs you raffist

  • I organise 70 rides each year, all of which are open to anyone. They are advertised on the LCCRider list and there are over 400 on my club email list. You have plenty of opportunities to come on one of my rides.

This ride is not open to the general public. It is irresponsible for the poster to have put this on here and I sincerely hope that a Facebook group has not been set up. As a result, I will email the original recipients and change the starting point. If the ride appears on this or any other forum again, I will cancel it. I'm just not prepared to cater for an unnecessarily large group when you have ample opportunity to come on any of my other rides.

Thanks for trying to spoil it....

  • Why the two separate logins?

  • Why two log ins? Because I forgot my password and it wouldn't reset properly.

  • :-)

I wouldn't take the facebook thing seriously. it's just pisstaking.

  • :-)

I would take the facebook thing seriously. 1763 people have joined.

    ;p

I thought it was obvious from the blurb that this was "*an all day social cycle ride for music biz types" *rather than a ride for the general public. I got invited by someone and I know in the *music biz and I also know there are plenty of music biz types* on the forum who might fancy a good day out.

BTW, I also notice that your ride has been publicised on the two Yahoo bike forums I subscribe to. Couldn't tell you about facebook, I dont use it.

  • A message has been sent to everyone on the facebook event page except my Mum. I don't have the heart to tell her that she won't be meeting Craig David.

  • Perhaps you'd like to post on those two Yahoo forums that they'll be wasting their time? We're starting from somewhere different.

Shame people don't get quite so excited about all my other 'open' rides.....

  • I organise 70 rides each year, all of which are open to anyone.

Well aren't you the big man then.

This ride is not open to the general public. It is irresponsible for the poster to have put this on here ... If the ride appears on this or any other forum again, I will cancel it. ...

Thanks for trying to spoil it....

Care to point me to the bits of this ride that take place on routes that aren't open to the general public? To the bits of route that you've specially arranged to open up for your special group?

Don't get me wrong, I'm not proposing to gatecrash (especially not now), but as an outsider I'd suggest you calm down, take a couple of deep breaths, pick up your rattle and toys, and put them back in your pram.

  • I know where the new start is PM me for info ;p

@braker, Craig said to cheer your Mum up he'll pop around to hers to sing her a song in exchange for a cup of tea ;p
