I am a fan of Kapoor's work generally, but I think this design is really horrendous. I can't believe this was the best design out of the 50 finalists!

£16m is being funded by Lakshmi Mittal, only £3.1m is coming from the LDA.

Well, it's funded by the London Development Agency, who have a remit to use their c.£410m annual budget to promote London's economy, with emphasis on small and medium sized enterprises.

Seems to me that a large-scale public artwork is a reasonable way of raising London's economic profile.

I do not see this work raising anything but a laugh from visitors to the games. Were they behind the Dome?
