I am a fan of Kapoor's work generally, but I think this design is really horrendous. I can't believe this was the best design out of the 50 finalists!

HA!!
The tower is budgeted to cost £19.1 million, said Mr Johnson, with £16 million of the cost being covered by Mr Mittal and the remaining £3.1 million from the Greater London Authority.
£3.1 million from the Greater London Authority.
£3.1 million from the Greater London Authority.

Looks nice, interesting piece of work.
£16m is being funded by Lakshmi Mittal, only £3.1m is coming from the LDA. -
• #16
That still seems a lot to me
-
• #17
Well, it's funded by the London Development Agency, who have a remit to use their c.£410m annual budget to promote London's economy, with emphasis on small and medium sized enterprises.
Seems to me that a large-scale public artwork is a reasonable way of raising London's economic profile.

I do not see this work raising anything but a laugh from visitors to the games. Were they behind the Dome?

-

Angel of the north is awesome! As is most of Gormleys work, except the One & Other project in Trafalgar Square, that was a total crock of shit.
-
• #24
meh, people hated the and angel of the north when they were built.
I hated the eiffel tower when it was built to be honest.
Though, I liked the angel of the north at first, now I am well over it and think it's shit. If I was from the north I'd piss on it, but that's cos northerners piss on stuff a lot, or so I have been told.
