  • From the Charge bikes people, for those who haven't seen it yet:
    http://www.surface-clothing.com/

Just seen a review of their water repellent trousers:
    http://road.cc/content/review/15848-surface-liquistretch-trousers

I reckon I'll be picking a pair up, look like good value for money!

  • I'd heard of the trousers already, price doesn't actually look too bad either, might treat myself.

  • jacket's v nice, but will no doubt be ubiquitous in seconds.

Where are you seeing prices? I

  • i have one of the wool jackets, it's very nice and will wear it off the bike too, it's quite a slim cut though so not for pie eaters (the larger sizes may not be so fitted?)

You should have got the limited edition Rapha Tweed softshell when you had the chance.

What are you trying to say?

    (Reaches for multi-pie)

  • Wool jacket is very tasty but does say slim fit.

    Fatist bastards!

  • Just emailed them this question, I'll post if I get anything useful back.

    Hello,

Nice jacket. Will the web site eventually have dimensions, such as sleeve length, chest and hem to neck height? Definitely on my wish list but the slim fit aspect may be too slim.

    Thanks.

  • What are you trying to say?

that it seems like it will be great for wearing on the bike if it may rain and i don't wish to wear an item of 'technical cycling clothing'

it's smart enough to wear out off the bike without it looking like an item of cycling clothing.

  • Comes with i-pie pocket.

    ;)

    I may yet steal one.

How much was it & where did you get it from? Such info seems to be missing from their site. Looks like a nice jacket.

how does it 'perform' is it sweaty on the bike, does it fail at being water proof?

a review in other words please Mr Smyth, and how prey tell, did you manage to acquire it before it hits the shops?

  • Still not seeing prices...

    #notthattheyhavewomensclothes.

  • i haven't worn it yet!
just for you i went and poured a pint of water over the sleeve and it just ran off.
i didn't realise it was wool, the fabric is nice and pliable but looks hardwearing and has membrane on the inside like most breathable jackets.
i like the high collar, should be good for keeping the rain out.

    i know a few people in the bike biz. {wink}
no idea of price but knowing charge it will be good VFM

  • I think the jacket will retail at £120. I've seen one in the flesh and I liked it. As MrSmyth says, it does have a slim cut.

It seems an odd time of year to launch a range of what are, essentially, winter clothes though, no? I wonder if they've had supplier issues.

  • £120 is a good price. i thought it was going to be more than that looking at the quality of the jacket.

  • £120 is very nice. What was Rapha's wool softshell RRP?

Thanks Mr Smyth. I think you should get it on your back and give us a field test

  • £120 is very nice. What was rapha's wool softshell rrp?

    £450.

  • £120 is a good price. i thought it was going to be more than that looking at the quality of the jacket.

Yep, just checked and, according to the email from Julio, it'll retail at £119.99.

  • to be honest for £120 i'd rather have a gore paclite jacket. You dont know what you're getting when you companiess use other fabrics, i've had my fingers burnt before with crappy nari furi stuff

  • a gore or e-vent jacket is a technical jacket. they are great (i have an e-vent) but the point of the charge jacket is it doesn't look like you are about to embark on an outward bound adventure.

if you can only have one jacket then a lightweight gore/e-vent is probably a good choice.
but it's nice to have more that one jacket :-)
