Cheap fixie wanted

Posted on
  • Hi all, I am after a cheap fixie for leisure rides mainly and to see if I like riding fixed. I am 6' but like a lot of seat post showing. Nearly bought a create as liked the look ( cough cough) but found this forum in the nick of time........thanks. Prefer flat bars and colours either black or White but I guess they are easily changed. Budget ideally less than £175. Thanks.
Ps I am in teesside so may need posting. Cheers

  • Buy a create. £160 for the clearence ones, nothing much wrong with them. cut the bars, buy new saddle-£15, tyres-£20, rimtape-£3, chain-£4, tighten the spokes and cover the create logo up with some insulation tape. There you have a nice "cheap fixie". you want something better for £175?

  • I've got a spare one at home, want me to pop it in the post tomorrow?

  • I detect a hint of sarcasm there. I wasn't after a new one for that price. Someones old beater would have done. Thanks for taking the time to reply anyway.

  • WDY have a look on eBay for a complete bike with the right drop outs and work from there? You can pick up a fixed rear wheel and other bits and pieces from the forum.

  • Thanks cujo, I have been looking at that as an option and that's propably what I will do. Cheers

  • why would you want a old beater when you can get a create? when you add up all the pieces you get tons for your money. buying used stuff off ebay and building a bike is usually more expensive and isnt even as good.

  • I have a Unipac frame (what create use) kicking around from my first single speed. Ticks all your boxes - not new and cheap. Did me proud and got me hooked. The frame was the last bit of the bike I changed but would be a good solid starting point. You interested in building something up?

  • go create

  • go compare

  • is this thread fro real?!?! FFS...

  • I want create appreciation thread.

  • i will sacrifice you to the gods of all things decent!

    UNICRAPS

  • Keep an eye on the classifieds section, they do pop up. Only issue may be the posting. Have you looked at Gumtree? I would also suggest just building one up yourself? Start off witha frame like this: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/mens-56cm-columbus-alloy-racing-bike-frame_W0QQitemZ300409059644QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_sportsleisure_cycling_bikeparts_SR?hash=item45f1c6793c#ht_500wt_1182 . If you don't like it sell it.
