is that anodised? or powdercoat? - id be using a brake on it.

the brake would rub both coatings off. rims wear under braking, the side wall is worn away. Rims with a braking surface are often slightly thicker. I would not recommend this rim for use with a brake.

Just use it fixed so you don't need a rear brake?

i like my downhill coasting and my tyres as much as i like not having to faff around with adjusting gears, singlespeed is enough for me thanks

you can run a freewheel on either side, it's just you have less thread
