  • Does someone know where I can get these wheel covers?

Not the bags you get for free with every Shimano / Campagnolo / Mavic wheel set
Not the blue rubber Clément covers

But the old fashioned covers that you can pull around your wheels, without the need to take the wheel out of the frame / forks

    Please ???

  • should have come to neerkant man :)

  • Something like this? I used to have some Campag ones but fcuk knows where they are or do you want the ones where you don't have to remove the wheels from the bike to get them on?

  • But the old fashioned covers that you can pull around your wheels, without the need to take the wheel out of the frame / forks

    i think yes

  • What DC wants is a bit like that, but with a join so that the cover can be hooked onto spokes with clips at one point, then wrapped around the circumference of the wheel until you reach the start point, at which hooks on the other end of the cover are again clipped onto spokes. This way, as the man said, you can put them on the wheels without removing the wheels from the bike!

I have some in which the elastic with the hooks on reached the end of its natural life after about 27 years and so I bought some elastic on ebay and restored my wheel covers to like new! (almost). My wife was surprised I bothered but now I'm glad I did.

  • hehe she had never known you knew how to work a needle and a thread?

  • Oh I think she knew that. I'll have a go at most things!

I know the ones you had as I had the same ones. You can convert those Contis is you can sew has the hook piece was a figure of 8 link with one half pulled out.

I just remember the name of the sodding things as I only used them to protect the tubs on my track wheels.

  • Like these:

Yeah you can see the join at the bottom, whats the proper name for these?

  • Right guys, that's what I want.

Don't want to take the weels out, because that's easier on a track bike.

If possible the ones you can "open" and attach with hooks / clips as described above.
    That would be great.
If not, the Conti's are an option and I have to ask my wife to do the sewing.
Should be easier than repairing tubulars or fixing "chammies"

    @ Fruit:
Were these for sale in Neerkant? Wouldn't be surprised.
I liked to go there, but it's almost 200km one way.
Besides that, I preferred to do a road race.
Some people actually do ride their bikes.

  • They show up occasionally on eBay. There's a set now on US eBay.

Expect to pay £15 and up depending on whose name is on them.

Also available from London jumbles for much cheaper, which may not help you.

    Don't see many modern ones.

  • Don't need new, but if it's for same, then I'm interested.
No matter what print they have.

If someone sees a pair on jumbles, please try to get a pair for little money.

  • Erm I know how this is going to sound... but I would love a set to stick on my bike for no other reason other than the fact that they would look lovely when in storage! + they might hide the smell of dog shit??

  • If it's just for storage, use old tubulars that you have cut open and removed the inner tube. The old and cheap way.
But it's not really nice and you still have to take the wheels out of the bike. If you're lucky it keepts away the smell of dog shit though.

i saw them there on a pair of wheels, yes 400km is a bit too much for watching some 'ouwe rommel wat moet je er mee' :)

  • I have several pairs green with Vittoria (with clips/buttons?) and some silver ones with Continental I think on them. Interested let me know. ciao amigo

  • After Dutch Cheese's Dibs, could I dib the silver ones if he doesn't want them!

  • Will place some jpegs tomorrow. adeus. ian

  • Thanks Ian, I will sort it out.
Waiting for your pics and other info.
    Replied on your PM.
Need only 1 set and don't care about colours/prints, so if it's the right type, I'll take the green and DickBarton can have the silver ones.

    Ha thats food for thought.

    Cheers bud.

  • Hi Harrie a.k.a Dutch Cheese,

Please find several attached. The prices are as follows. The green Vittoria wheel covers with buttons and hooks are £11 (x3) each - thick strong covers in good to reasonable condition. The black Continentals covers with multi-coloured elastic bands - with orange lettering are £8 (x2) each - stretchable in very good condition hardly used. The grey/silver Clement cover with mulit-coloured elastic bands - with red lettering is £5 stretchable - gone a bit grubby and worn. Will let you know about postage to Holland if interested.

    kind regards Ian

  • Thanks for posting the pics. I was hoping the Clements would be clip on but alas they are the stretchy ones. I'll undib but thanks again for the offer.

  • I have a pair of blue complete tyre covers- Michelin I think - like a really floppy folding tyre,

and I must have a poke about in Aladdin's Cave No 2 for a black & white pair of stretchy wheel

    covers around somewhere....

    Ah, the good old days......

  • Thanks Colnago_Costa !
    All worked out well.

    Cheers, DC
