Single chainring conversion

  • Hi guys

I'm building my fixie at the moment and I've finished apart form one small detail - it still has a double chainring at the front. I understand how to do this, but I was wondering if instead of sawing off the chainring bolts or buying new ones, I could just use washers. Please don't give me mouth about being lazy and not looking, I already have done.

    Cheers

  • My mate did what you're planning to do without problem. You might also find that putting the ring on the inner lip will help your chainline more than if its on the outer.

  • you can also file down chainring bolts, but i found it was far more hassle than it was worth (the only reason I even entertained the idea was because every single shop i went into for about 10 days were sold out of single chainring bolts when i was trying to finish a build)

must be the invasion of the fixie skidderz.........

  • nah, if i was in east london id have been rolling in chainring bolts, out west people look at you funny if you dont have gears...

  • OK thanks for all the help, but now I've got a problem with my chainring bolts. They don't seem to be normal like the one on my road bike. They have hexagonal nuts on the outside, and the spanner doesn't quite fit them properly, any suggestions?

  • Different sized spanner, adjustable spanner.
