End of tax year coming up - councils desperate to use up their budgets, roadworks easiest way to splash the cash. Same every year at this time.

Atleast the southbound side of Waterloo Road got new tarmac this week, 'tis silky smooth rolling now. But yeah, Brixton Road is really bad at the moment, the southbound part by Cranmer Road that's coned down to one lane is a death trap in the making.

It is utter wank! Old Vic-Waterloo bridge is a joke. Oxford Street. WTF! You might as well be riding off road with all the pot holes... Nice one cycle friendly Boris..

Waterloo from the Old Vic to the Imax has always been shite - potholes galore. Just hop they do teh whole lot rather than just the bit they're working on at the mo
-
• #9
Hope so as the other way (Imax to old vic) has some dreamy tarmac now..

Does anyone know when the road works at Herne Hill under the railway bridge will be done? What's the deal with the massive new ped island opposite Cafe Provencal too? It kicks out into the road at one end, forcing traffic to pile up as it has to merge from two lanes to one, which seems mental given how bad that junction is to start with...

Though, to be fair, a few weeks ago I was complaining about all the pot holes, then yesterday I was complaining about the road works. Can't win with moaning bastards like me.
On my route, pretty much all the way from Hyde park to Hammersmith -

It's interesting isn't it?! Its meant to be finished soon, but the flower lady and the bakers were complaining about the workment just standing around for about a month as they waited for the materials to turn up.
They've messed up the park entrance - the architects plans / representation had that little triangle planted with trees. Now there's one, and an ugly phone box stuck in the middle. As you say, that bus / cycle feeder lane will be a death trap, unless the phasing on the lights is done correctly.
I'm hoping they replace the bike parking outside the train station too, as that mysteriously went missing when they repaved it.

here's the overhead view:
I think the island is changing to deter cars from making illegal left hand turns off milkwood road. It is absolutely huge now and it does pinch in significantly.
The work was meant to be done already. They're blaming the delays on the winter weather, which may be the case as recently they have been progressing much much faster. It can't come soon enough in my opinion.
Snowy- the plans do call for those bike racks to be replaced, there are some dots sprayed on which I assumed are to be the anchor points for the replacement bike racks. -

I think it's simply normal amount of roadwork that happen to be on your commute route.

Agree about HH, they've made a right dog's dick of that junction and the entrance to Brockwell Park

+1!!! I've nearly been pasted into the new ped island twice already by cars barging through the narrowing gap (I want to turn onto Half Moon Lane so have to stay to the right of the lane), and the 6 inch high kerb all the way around it makes it even worse, ripe for pedal strike. If the light sequences dont get sorted out at the end of this I'm going to start riding commuting through Loughborough Junction instead, HH is fucked.

It's always been shit round there, whether on a bike or in a car. I bet the fuckin CCTV'll still be wroking properly though - they'll have a field day with fines round there

I don't mind the roadworks - at least they're doing something about the surfaces, which are appalling at the moment. My poor rims!

And it gets on my tits how there is no option for crossing between the end of Half Moon Lane and Milkwood Road. But the whole thing is indeed a mess. Worth taking in part of the hill if one can avoid the HH area completly.

About time they fixed the fuckin roads I say.
And yes, always the same time every year.

im seeing a lot of leaking water on the roads... must have been that deep freeze broken all the pipes.
Is it me or is there more and more roadworks each week? Getting right on my tits
Putting an extra 5/10mins on my commute
Brixton Rd to Oval - manic
Waterloo form the Old Vic all the way over the bridge to The Strand - wank
Then round the back of Centre Point/Tott Court Rd & Oxford St - shite
With that comes the condensed rabble of fluro hybrid nodders getting in my way! Grrrrrrrrrr
