Due to the very high rate of English literacy in the Netherlands, I would suggest asking him if he can correspond with you in English instead. Most of them will be understanding that linguistically this country is a bunch of fucking retards.

Some of the Afrikaans speakers here may be able to have a stab at it.

I can read Dutch OK. (I used to live in Flanders.) I've PM'd you.

Tried it. For some reason it's blocked at college. Weird.

That's hillarious! Those translate sites don't seem to like Marktplaatz very much at all. Pain in the ass when I was looking for a room.
My experience over the last month is that everyone speaks English. Trying to converse in dutch is a nice gesture but unecessary. They're miles ahead of us in that respect. Even the homeless can request money (and a whole lot more) in English. In fact, if anything they tend to get a bit impatient with us butchering their language and making exchanges take far longer than necessary.

That is a very good point. I didn't meet anyone there in a month who couldn't also speak very good English. Better than me, usually.

Or try FrankTheTank, Archi_Pelago, or Lecturer In Recent Runes, all taken from the Dutch Bikes thread.
Not so sure about Archi though. -

Not saying the UK isn't generally backward with multi linguismness but what language would the British be expected to have as a second language. For most countries english is a fairly good choice, whereas if I were choosing second and third languages dutch would not be amongst them!

Oh also I've got it sorted, the guy has fluent English, yet apologises for his 'attempts'.
Cheers to those offering help
I received an email from a guy today regarding a pair of pedals I put a bid on on Marketplaats. I have no idea what he's saying, but I'm pretty sure I don't owe him any money as I got outbid.
Can anybody let me know if they are able to translate, and I'll send you the email.
