  • I was cycling to work this morning through the roundabout at the intersection of Goldhawk Rd and Stamford Brook Rd in Chiswick. I was going west and had right of way. The driver was waiting, I thought to let me pass. I got directly in front of her and she accelerated into me sending me flying through the air to the other side of the roundabout. My new Bianchi is totaled and I am bruised head to toe.

So much for being assertive and taking the middle of the road... didn't do squat this time. She said she just didn't see me. The police said I would have been in her blind spot. I ranted that there was no such thing as a blind spot- just hard to see spots. Got all the details and her insurance will cover everything. Have been given great advice by CTC and LCC. Big thumbs up to them.

It's my birthday tomorrow. Guess it'll involve a wild night of deep heat and pain killers...
I do feel very luck considering what has happened to the two cyclists killed this week.

  • Bummer. Heal up fast. Maybe you can get a compensation not only for the bike, and end up with an even nicer steed and a holiday or sth?

  • Bad luck. Heal up.

I'm sorry I'm slightly confused, was she coming from a diffrent lane on the roundabout, on your left?

  • hard luck, heal up fast and good luck getting appropriate insurance. Even if you cycle carefully and safely there is always risk it seems :-( - good effort telling the police what you thought of their justification for the "Sorry I didn't see you there" bollox

  • Nasty, glad you're ok tho, it's been horrible reading rider down threads this week.

Being in the blind spot is no excuse, the blind spot is only blind if the driver is too stupid to move his head to look out the side of the car. "Didn't see" means "wasn't looking" and for that there is no excuse.

  • Sorry to hear about this. Heal up. Get checked out if you haven't already.

  • Sorry to hear about this. Heal up. Get checked out if you haven't already.

+1 medical report for any related insurance purposes useful let alone just to make sure your are fine too

  • Get well soon and be thankful you're not any worse off and hopefully haven't broken anything. Blind spot? You had the right of way, it's give way to the right on a roundabout. WAC of a police officer.

  • Jo

    that's a shocker

    heal up fast

    contact ollie Jeffcott on here

  • really sorry to hear that; sounds like you did a good job given the situation.

    Good advice about a medical.

  • Don't take ibuprofen for at least 24 hours as it messes up the body's healing initial healing process

voltarol gel can help a lot with the bruising

  • and eat curry

  • and poke yourself in one eye with a blue pen whilst squeezing your left toe

  • Crap!! Get well soon!
Ice, ice baby... not deep heat, I recco.

Also, if you're gonna avoid one NSAID, you may as well avoid all of them, in order to be consistent (just sayin', James)

  • Ouch, that's really shit. Heal up soon.

  • Odd junction for that to happen on going west. Visibility is pretty good.

Is that the large blind spot directly in front of the windscreen? I had some muppet drive straight into me a while back and I reckon I was directly in front of his windscreen for a good 30 seconds before he stuck his foot on the accelerator.

Heal up fast, and screw them for a new bike.

  • Hope you have a speedy recovery and, far more importantly, enjoy your birthday! I broke my collarbone on mine and can confirm alcohol will numb the pain nicely if consumed in considerable quantities.

  • One of my pet fears as a driver is failing to spot a cyclist on a roundabout due to the A post (thats the bit between the windscreen and side window). It also makes me super cautious on roundabouts when on 2 wheels.
Saw a female cyclist on the road in front of a car having just suffered what sounds a similar accident last week at the roundabout on the North side of Lambeth Bridge.
    Heal quick!

  • I know that roundabout :(

Vision lines are damn clear, that's a 'careless driving' thing IMHO.. grrrrrrrrrrrrrr!

I hope that the compensation you deserve enables you to get an even nicer Bianchi (and yours was very nice, RIP)

It'll be a sore few days, get well soon!!!

  • masturbation is known to reduce swelling.

    heal quick.

  • It's also thought to make you go blind, so perhaps the driver should stop being such a wanker.

  • It's also thought to make you go blind, so perhaps the She driver should stop being such a wanker.

    Amended.

  • So driving and wanking are the preserves of men, are they?

  • no, you're thinking of maramalade there Bummppfff
