Wanted: Man-sized frame

Posted on
  • I need a road frame ideally, something in good nick. It's to build up into a geared audax bike, so mudguards / rackmounts are good. Down tube shifter braze ons / sti shifters, don't care.

Bigness will be the redeeming feature of any frame. I wouldn't say no to various roadie parts being left attached to such frames, if you happen to have Goliath's old bike knocking about.

62cm is too small, so 65 minimum?

I can't afford a brand new 25.5" Bob Jackson, and I can't read / speak Dutch so marktplaats isn't helping.

I'm in London mid-march, so can pick up with cash, otherwise it will need shipping to France.

I know there are some big boys on here (and maybe girls?) so I'm throwing myself on your mercy -- help me out!

  • The local farmer has a 5 bar gate going spare, its about the same size as the frame you want, will that be ok? ;-)))

  • Are you in the netherlands?

There is more lanky folks around there than any other place. So Id have a good look around there.

  • @Eldiablo -- Ha yes, a five-bar gate with two penny farthing front wheels, that'll do nicely. There are some mega sized frames on here, so I know they exist. If only they weren't people's bikes...

DFP - I'm in France. Which is why I need it posting to France. And unfortunately, my Dutch is terrible, so I can't even generate much by way of results on the marktplaats website (or any other dutch sites).

  • contact "dutch cheese" he seems to be quite often willing to collect bike in holland on behalf of forum members and ship them over here, so i'm sure he'd ship to france.

  • Ribble are having a frame clearance sale at the moment. They've got some 64cm Audax frames for 60 quid.

  • Mr Tom, thanks for the heads up, I'll give them a ring tomorrow morning. The 64 is CTT not CTT, though.

  • I have a 25" Raleigh Royale. 531 frame and forks. In good nick, would make a good audax bike imo as it is between racing and full on touring geometry. Has mudguard clearance and eyes but no rack, canti or downtube braze ons. It was fitted with 27" wheels but 700c will be right at home in there with longer drop brakes.

I can supply pics if you're interested.

I'd like £65 for the frame and fork but postage to France is £35+ if I can get it in a small enough box. So it could be yours for £100....

  • Tel, that'd be great if you could do some pics. You in London by any chance?

  • I'll sort some pictures for you but no I'm not in London I'm in Kent ME12. If someone on here agrees to it though I will send it to them for £10 and you can collect from them. We're jumping the gun here though I'll get those pictures sorted....

  • Right finally have taken some pictures! Wheels not included and I want that godl bottle cage for another project I'm afraid!

£65 quoted price includes a Stronglight headset not shown in the picture, if you don't want the headset you can have it for £50 (both + £10 postage)

    Loads more here http://i597.photobucket.com/albums/tt55/Telsun/raleigh/Royal

It's an old bike and has various scratches here and there also a small dink in one of the chainstays where it had a kickstand mounted...I'll take a picture of that actually if you're interested. Chrome on the forks is not the best although on the outer sides it's not too bad, I'll take better pictures of that too (I'm slacking I know!)

  • have a very nice 25.1/2" Carlton Team Professional in execellent condition, 531 D/B Tubing plus Campag dropouts also a 25" R E W Reynolds in good original condition also with 531 and Campag dropouts.....am asking £130 for the Carlton and £100 for the Reynolds if interested am happy to send photos
    cheers
    griff

  • ^Thats nice. Didn't think there'd be so many bigguns out there, you're spoilt for choice....

  • I am indeed spoiled for choice! GRiff / saxby's, any chance of pics of the carlton? 25.5" is just about spot on!

Tel, that raleigh looks nice, are the photos with 700c wheels?

  • yes 700c wheels

  • Yes the Raleigh has 700c's in the pictures. In all honesty it is tatty and the others on offer are far better than what I am offering, looking at it it's more of a big beater. I'll have a rethink on the price so that it reflects this....

  • Thanks for all the help guys, the collective wisdom of LFGSS has had far more luck in locating big bikes than I've had in about a year of looking.

Tel, cheers for the photos mate, I don't think that's what I'm looking for though.

rapepper, that is a perhaps a little large!! That style of frame would be brilliant, though, braze-ons galore.

I bit the bullet and bought a ribble winter frame and fork with the funny integrated headset, for 110squids, shipping included. Marked toptube. Bargainous.

    Thanks again, everyone!
