Silkscreening, Laser Etching or Whatever It's Called

  • How easy is it to apply a permanent logo or image like this to black or silver components?

  • Pretty easy, take it to somewhere like Berry Place. 020 7490 8222

  • What's the correct terminology?

I'd like a certain panto'd stem but I'm sure I'll never find one.

This seems like the next best thing if simple and affordable.

  • to be permanent it has to be laser etched/engraved.
    semi-perm screenprinted

  • you can use a laser cutter to etch through the anodized surface on on metals, and reveal the silver behind quite easily.... although setting up a jig for a stem to sit correctly in the laser bed would be a right pain in the ass.

rounded materials are also especially tricky, as you need to focus the laser on to what your cutting, as the stem is round, the laser would become un-focused the further away you get from the central section.

  • contact campoldie they might know who can do it for you

  • really, reeeally helpful sometimes. i inquire said services as well.

  • helpful - the forum that is, gggg!

  • if it's steel, you can etch really easily at home (you could use a laser stencil for nice crisp graphics). I can post an explanation if you want.

  • hmm, it's not steel but alloy cranks and then getting rid of some strategicly placed (<logo or the like) powdercoat.

i bet the process is similar to screen print techniques using a bity acid instead of pigment solution.
i wonder, what the acid mixture would consist of, so ja, interested in the process actually :)

i'd be interested in a explanation if you have the time to wack it up.

  • dredging up this thread because I saw these very nice shiny bits and wondered whether it is possible to etch the Campagbnolo logo back into a crankset after it's been mirror polished

    so, who's got a machine like [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ggs7eU0zcyk"]this[/ame
