practise skidding in the wet or on sand, and take a look at the advice on here about skip-stopping and skid-stopping (it's pretty useful), but expect to get savaged by the regulars who are probably so incensed by your daring to ask such a question that they haven't stopped frothing at the mouth long enough to respond with sanctimonious invective.

Also grass is good for practising on, if you've got wet grass, you'll have a lot of fun =D

sand?
i am confused.

get long reach calipers

Get Brucy to weld some disc mounts on and run the cable/hose through the fork steerer and out of the top cap- then you can still barspin.
-
• #7
wouldnt the caliper hit the down-tube when trying to barspin?
if you're using a really high gear ration then skidding will be a lot easier as well -

72x11 is the best ratio for fixxieskiderz

front disk brake?

Not sure why they even bothered drilling the scissor fork as very few caliper brakes will reach. It can take a 50c tyre which means the rim is a fair distance from the brake caliper hole!
The better solution was AD990 mounts that I have seen on some forks, with the added advantage of being easier to route cable up through fork due to their BMX background.
One option would be to run a back brake maybe? (yes I realise they are not as effective as front)

cable disc brake and a bmx gyro

If you're seriously asking for tips on riding brakless, forget about it for a while. If you must, ride with a brake for a while and practice, umm, not using it, safe in the knowledge its there when you do need it. After around 3 years, and only after you have bought and sold at least 3 phil wood hubs and/or H+ Son rims, remove it.

You don't need a gyro for a front brake. But as the scissor fork does not have disc mount tabs I am not sure why disc brakes are even being suggested anyway?
Plus would also need a new wheel (or hub/spokes and build)
Bit drastic when you could just get a very long reach brake or use a rear brake...

http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=22387Buy those things, add to bike. When you have been riding for 6+ months without touching the brake once, then you can consider taking the brake off. Until then. Don't be a fucking idiot.

This!
If you need to ask how to ride brakeless, you shouldn't be riding brakeless. Simples.
Buy brake and enjoy your bike. -

Build the rear wheel with a double-sided hub. Get two cranksets and put them on both sides of your BB, so that you have a chainring on both sides. Get two freewheels (you'll have to buy the best you can afford so there's no backlash in the system) and put them both on your rear wheel. Have the ratios like 70" for going forwards (RH side) and 30" for going backwards (LH side). Put chains on both sides. Now you've got a high gear for going forwards but a really low gear for super-easy fixieskidding.
Obviously, it'll be much lighter, cheaper, prettier and quieter (no freewheel constantly ticking) just to get a front brake. But not as unique.

There's a thread on that idea already.
Though it's a nice idea it won't work in reality. The maths/physics is out. -

I done a clever
I got my scissor fork in through the post, but is it even possible to run a front brake? I put on a standard short reach road brake and the blocks are nowhere near the rim?
also any tips on riding brakeless?
