Cleaning up greasy parts at home with baking soda

  • Well have been pointed to this on the internet for cleaning aluminium parts with baking soda. Doesn't work on rusty metal but its interesting.

  • Note that the plastic tube end does wear away but the ali parts come up like new and undamaged.

  • Looking at some youtube links on the soda cleaning and it can clean the paint off metal without damaging the metal underneath. The link show a glassfibre body of corvette being blasted and the paint is removed with no damage to the glassfibre body work.

  • It's really, really corrosive and if inhaled will give you the shits pretty bad. Other than that, go ahead.

  • I use this oven cleaner paste I got from the pound shop.

    I'm off to clean my bike now!

  • Soap and water is also very good for cleaning grease of parts.

    Baking soda's not corrosive, and aafter doing some blasting of some engine cases with out a mask and was fine. No shits or anything.

    Going to try with some painted carbon fibre soon see the outcome.
