If the ball is touched off the end of the mallet and then flicked with the wheel it should be a goal. If the last mallet touch is a shuffle then no goal. So I think it was ruled correctly this weekend.

awesome trick, but hard to ref. you have to look always at the pipes, because you don't know if the next step is the push the ball with the wheel.

Should this apply?
There's a difference between intentionally adding direction to the ball with your bike and unintentionally doing it (same as we technically have for body contact). Whether or not you use a shuffle to get the ball into position before putting it in the goal with your bike doesn't mean you can suddenly score 'easy' goals. It's not like a ball-joint or a shuffle - the bike acts as the 'shot' part of the move?

I think if you take that approach, then you have to start deciding on the 'intent' of the wheel contact. I'd go with Tomasito's definition. -

For my the rule:
shuffle-> wheel ->goal =no goal
Can't be apply when you can clearly see that the goal is scored by a clear and intentionally shot by the wheel. The question is, does a clear shoot from wheel to goal count?
For me yes, that's a great skill move, hard to make, and it make polo more good-looking.The pre-lil-shot that landslide and tomasito support is olny an bureaucratic move to avoid the goal. The real probleme of shuffle->wheel-> goal, is more like whe you go behind the goalkeaper and shuffle on his rear wheel to try to have a reflexion on goal...
For my a rules like:
intentionally shoting from wheel count as a goal, can ben added whitout probleme. -

You guys are all wrong. A shot off your own wheel (or that of your teammate) is not a goal. A shot comes off business end of the mallet. Period.

That's not shot?!

business - end of mallet goal.
shuffle - shuffle. How many times do we see people twat the ball against there own wheel unitentionally for it to ricochet and be called a goal. mistake and shit skillz.
Real skill and timing shooting it onto your own wheel and flicking the ball back across to confuse the keeper. Should be a goal, awesome, first skill development i've seen since the 'airball' in Rouen. <Marc Sich worlds best bike polo player, (after zombo the greek)

There's a difference between accidental deflections and purposely shooting with the wheel.
While the wheel goal looks great and takes a lot of skill, i'm with Dr V. If it's not off the end of your mallet it isn't a goal. Allowing people to shoot with their wheels opens up all sorts of shit with people skidding their back wheels into the balls which could be/is dangerous.

That rad ball is confusing, they look so pro yet so amazing camp at the same time.

a goal is scored from the end of the mallet.
not from an intentional shot from something else, be it wheel or body.I think that it is such a marvellous bit of skill that it should be allowed.
whatever next? we'll be awarding goals for breaking windows or something?

if its intentional and you shoot* it. What is the problem?

If it hits your own wheel, it is no longer off the mallet. It is off the wheel.
What if you hit off your teammate's wheel? Off the wheel, not the mallet.
Off the other team's wheel? Own goal.

people shoot it off their own wheel all the time and we count it.

I don't think we should. I guess we'll have to vote for next league rules.

*Allowing people to shoot with their wheels opens up all sorts of shit with people skidding their back wheels into the balls which could be/is dangerous.
... *Dangerousity of this act isnt' a good point i think. Every time you try to make a big legal shot in this sport you have the opportunity to break opponent or teamate face with an heavy hard mallet... so.

Dangerousity
I think we should incorporate this word into a new polo logo.

I think we should incorporate this word into a new polo logo.
in french
"Dangerosité."..
How can you say that, "risky"...riskability...?
Ow, fuck, can't you all speak a real language...l -
• #20
In that sentence, you could say risk or dangerousness.
I just liked the word -- didn't meant to be fucking with you. Please carry on.

i understand that you are a realy conservative polo player...

As far as I am aware, we only count 'deflections' of a wheel which has come from a shot. This in an accidental or unintentional deflection.
Marc purposely moved the ball forwards with his wheel, not his mallet.
I don't think we should. I guess we'll have to vote for next league rules.
No need to change rules if you define between accidental deflection and intention to score with something other than the end of your mallet.

• #23
too many rules, not enough goals.
-
• #24
fucking hell.
he shoots, - its crap he shanks it, it goes in off his own wheel anyway. - goal
he shoots, - dinks it in off his own wheel with skill and intention. - no goal
what a load of bollox, if we can't progress this game will get boring. -
• #25
progress would be learning to shoot the ball without it hitting the front wheel all the time...
Marc was showing off a new trick at Greif 10.
Trick was roll the ball forward parallel to the goal, and then use the front wheel to flick it in. He got it in once, but off a shuffle, so no goal, and tried it again off a shot, but didn't get it in.
According to London rules, that was not legal, but KH ruled it legal.
I think that it is such a marvellous bit of skill that it should be allowed.
