sorry to all you modern riders, but i do think that this type of stem looks butt ugly, and ruins the sleek lines of a classic road bike !
why does no modern manufacturer make a classic quill stem with a detachable front plate?

thomson stem for example, no frills, well made and stiffer and stronger than old fashioned quill stem

I may not have understood the op, but the piss poor typing and lack of pics made his post quite opaque.

The thread has plenty of use, for us to mock the op, derail and insert pictures of cake, orange women etc

Ahead stems can be 'butt ugle' but as massive cunt correctly points out, Thomson stems are totally pr0nworthy... I cough swing both ways on this one...

You can get quill stems with front 'pop plates' I'm currently using this one on my latest conversion
