Forum day out?

In. Shame you don't get to do the indy part. Paddock Hill is wicked!
-
• #4
Paddock hill is part of the GT circuit, or is it just the part of the circuit that isn't the Indy section?
-
• #5
Paddock hill is the first corner on the indy (and GP) circuit. You hit it unsighted at the end of the start finsh straight and tumble over the edge of the world. It's very exciting on a Mo'bike....

sounds wicked!

Ah sorry I misread your post, I thought you were saying that you don't get to do Paddock Hill bend. Agreed though, it is a fecking awesome corner.
-

I've got a feeling you don't get to do it, just the GP loop (i.e the bit from Surtees? through to clearways and back round.)

"Bike around Brands 2010"
Have you ever thought about negotiating the Indy circuit at Brands Hatch ?
Well, on Friday 20th August you can – but on your bike ! For the fifth year
running Swanley & North Downs Lions are running a sponsored event on the
famous 1.2 mile course. Riders may start at any time from 6.30 p.m. & finish
by 8.30 p.m., but it is not a race, & they set their own target for the number
of laps they intend to complete.
To ensure that the chosen causes receive maximum benefit riders are asked
for minimum sponsorship donation of £10 per adult & £5 for under 12s,
payable on the night if not sponsored for more. The money raised will be
shared between the EllenorLions Hospice & other deserving causes in the
local community.
By being sponsored & taking part riders will be helping both adults and
children who have a life threatening illness, or who are in need of help for
other reasons. The money that they raise will make a difference !
For more information, and sponsor forms, contact Colin McRobert on 01732

Sounds like great fun - I'm in. I wander what top speeds might be possible over Paddock Hill? Also, the left hander after Druids (Graham Hill?) should be quite tasty. Looking forward to clipping some apexes and getting my knee down...

I've fancied riding round Brands Hatch for ages. I believe it was first built as a bicycle circuit.

I used to love Graham Hill bend. It used to be properly fast but too many people used to go squirting across the grass at the bottom up into the pit armco so they slowed it right down. Nothing like flipping into a downhill, off camber, LH to get the spinchter puckering though.
Cadwell full circuit would also be ace on a bicycle I reckon, if hard work.

there is an evil little bump in that corner that sends the unwary flying. at the hscc meet there in july, we must have watched a half a dozen cars fly off there. probably my fav corner in the universe.
come to think of it, there was a hairy moment at the superbikes there last year, where a dude came flying off, and nearly hit the dude that came off about 30 secs before. great!
(although, craig jones did die in the girly-bike race before that one... :(
-

It's definitely a scary corner on a superbike as the camber goes from +ve to -ve on the exit and you can easily get spat over the top.
I friggin love brands indy, it was always my favourite place to race. And they always used to have dodgy rock bands playing in the kentagon the night before big meetings....always used to amaze me that you'd see people crawling out of there @ 1am lining up for morning practice 7hrs later....
....Although saying that, I did once burp up a mouthful of boozy vomit in my helmet on the startline of a novice race at cadwell. Just the nerves...just the nerves..etc
-
• #23
urgh. :)
you still race?
I haven't been to Cadwell, but I will be there in April.
-
• #24
Nah not for years. Too expensive and I used to crash all the time. Still got my last race bike in my bedroom though.
Cadwell full circuit is awesome. The mountain is obviously a good place to watch but I always loved the long loop over the hill and the gooseneck. So easy to miss the braking marker / apex and fly off onto the grass and down the hill. Wicked.
I bought a set of leathers from crowtree in Louth once which I needed to race in the next weekend. Rode 20miles to Grimsby on my bicycle wearing them and promptly passed out at the train station. It was about 25c!

Hold on a second...
1 mile long circuit - check
Hilly - check
Tight first corner with blind entry - check....it's gonna be just like the good old days at Eastway!
