hey...do you know what year its from...cos if its quite old...you may need a funny BB. cos they used a differnet thread to anyone else 26tpi instead of 24....check out sheldon on raleigh
I heard about the differnet threading after i got a new BB for my Raleigh grnad prix...i just bought a 68mm/103mm sugino BB and it went in fine...so depends on year. you might need to ask LBS if ur not sure!

Thanks for your thoughts Dunk.

Measure it?

is 24 tpi standard threading then?
-
• #6
yep
-
• #7
Definitely 24 TPI? That would work with a 68mm right? That would be great news!!

did you get the BB sorted? was it the 68 standard or was it funny?
I just got new head set on my raleigh grand prix, had to get forks rethreaded.

Standard Shimano UN54 bb will fit this fine.

I need a releigh 26 tpi bottom bracket, does any one know who can supply one of these ?
-

You can only get Phil Wood (£££££) or really, really cheap, poor quality Indian-built crap.
Couldn't you just remove/regrease the bearings?

Bought the frame with out a bottom bracket - very clever !
The solution has been to tap it out to a standard english thread - its only going from 26 to 24 tpi - and this appears to have worked very well.

Actually, if it didn't have cottered cranks to begin with, I'd have been surprised if that had Raleigh threading.

How sure are you that this will be fine, as I am about to need a bottom bracket for my conversion project of a Raleigh Winner!
Thanks

As far as I can remember, if it's 68mm then you'll be fine. If it's not 68mm, then it's a weird threading and you have to use a threadless. Better check Sheldon if you want to be sure.

Or take the frame to your LBS and ask them to try the threading before you buy it. It's only gonna cost a couple of quid more than buying it online anyway and you get to support someone you will probably need at some point in the future.

The '82 Winner frame I converted had Raleigh threading.

What does this mean therefore? Could you possible send me a link to the sort of thing I need to be looking at!
Thanks

Also, did you replace your brakes and wheelset? If so, what did you go for?

If you have a Raleigh threaded bb, it means you'll struggle to replace with a new like for like. Choice tend to be refurb what you have, rethread, push fit or threadless.

Sorry for the late reply..
Dendenium's Sheldon link covers it all well, but the BB threading is the only place you'll likely have trouble. I tried & failed to find anywhere local that would re-tap the threads, but in the end just kept the original BB cups and replaced the spindle with a shorter one I found digging around at a local bike co-op.
I replaced the 27" wheels with 700's and use a long-drop (R556? something like that) Tektro brake on the front. Oh, and the seatpost's a semi-awkward 25.0 size too.
Serves me well as a cheap & cheerful beater, but not anything worth spending real money on..
Hi
I have an old Raleigh Winner that I'm in the process of fixing up.
Does anyone know what size bottom bracket it would need?
I have a 68mm BB - could that be suitable?
As it's only a cheap frame I'm looking for a cheap replacement- dreading an expensive reply!
