Highlandpro was wondering where I got my figures of £2500 to £3000 from when I initially asked him to make a donation, well, he thinks he doesn't need to make one. Well, allow me to show you where I got the figures from. Listed below, is every for sale thread you have made, along with the price the item was listed for, where possible (rounded a little, e.g. £399 becomes £400.
At the bottom, is the total.[]54 cm Langdale 653 reynolds steel road bike - £400
[]Campagnolo Seat Pin 27.2mm Silver Good Nic - £25
[]Brake Levers - £30
[]Brake Levers - £30
[]21 Tooth Track Sprocket Silver - £7
[]19 Tooth Track Sprocket Silver - £7
[]17 Tooth Track Sprocket Silver - £7
[]21 inch Bob Jackson Chrome Track Bike With Track Ends Ready to Race - £230
[]Dura Ace - £60 - you have redacted this, but I wrote some of these down to calculate the total first time round.
[]57 cm Bob Jackson Track Frame Purple - £200 - Again, redacted, but from quotes in the thread, this is the price.
[]For Sale Fuji Track Frame Red White Blue - £n/a Not sold in the end. Listed for £200.
[]NOS OS Landranger Map's - £5 each. 12 requests, so, lets call it £50
[]For Sale Dave Yates 853 Reynolds Frame - £200 reduced
[]59cm 531 c Grass Track Bike - £600
[]Orbit Pista 18 inch Kids Track Frame(track ends) - £Unknown - You really need to stop doing this, leaving prices on helps other people to price their gear fairly...
[]Raleigh Burner - £50
[]Dura Ace Levers - £you redacted it. Call it £20 for the sake of it.
[][Fulcrum 7 red front wheel mint - £again, redacted. Call it £50 for the sake of it.
[]Dura Ace - £140
[]Rolls Saddle - £redacted. Call it £15 for the sake of it.
[]Ian Steels Viking Track Bike - £170
[]Brian Rourke 753 Reynolds Track Frame - £195
[]Ritchey Pro Road 38mm front wheel - £200
[]Plowman Craven Thermals - £80According to my calculator, that totals at £2966.
That includes items not yet sold, so, lets remove those, bearing in mind that because you remove so much of your information after a sale, this is hard... and I am left with a total of £2200.I initially guessed that you had sold/listed around £2500 to £3000 worth of gear. Looks like I was pretty much right.
Now, get donating, before some of us get less polite.
I am aware that it is up to you if you want to donate, but, I am hoping you will see the light, so, here is that link again.

Because this place saves people like highlandpro a fuckload of time, effort and money flogging these items on eBay. This place is also a perfect marketplace for bike stuff, if your items are advertised decently and at a fair price then you are nailed on to sell whatever you want.
So someone who is making a lot of money through the forum should give a little back to the community, rather than just using it to make quick and easy ££££s.
Even if he gave 25% of the fees he would have spent on eBay that would be a worthwhile contribution. Look at Hilary Stone, has he donated? Course he has, he realises the value of access to this community!

Well the website is getting benefits in other ways - new members like me. I think sellers may be better off give to a worthwhile charity like Haiti for example, this is a personal choice and I don't think harassing people is the best way to get things done.

Thankyou Bainbridge. HighlandPro has PM'd me to say that he will donate at some point. My point, however was that he had sold such a lot and seemed to be averse to donation.
HandBuilt, how much to you suppose a website like this costs to run, per month?
Who pays that cost?

• #11
This site probably costs £50.00 max per moth

Ok, in August 2007, when the site had far fewer members, hosting was costing US$160 PCM, £100 at todays rate (http://www.lfgss.com/thread1062.html) Now, I'm not sure what the cost is now, but taking into account that between May 2009 and now, we have gained 4000 members (http://www.lfgss.com/thread21897.html) and have made nearly 400,000 posts, taking us to a total of 1,164,044 posts. The servers push 3,500,000 page views a month. That's a lot too. I would imagine that hosting costs have increased since those figures were published in May last year.
Are you done now, or shall we continue this frankly embarrassing (for you) saga?

That is irrelevant. VB (the administrator of this forum) has set very few rules for members to follow, however there are some regarding this particular section of the forum. I suggest you read them before digging yourself in any deeper.
Donations are suggested, but when a fella such as highlandpro, who clearly has a large amount of merchandise that he wishes to sell to a very susceptive market, it becomes more of an issue.

I have just found this image. This is the current hosting setup:

I like how the master and slave databases are each positioned next to a dangerously full glass of water.

Oh, and that is an incomplete diagram, it desn't show the backup server... To be fair, it is in a different data centre.

I would imagine that hosting costs have increased since those figures were published in May last year.
"Per Unit" hosting costs are falling steadily, driven by Moore's Law type falls in the capital cost of server hardware, particularly storage, and a slower but nonetheless noticeable decline in the bulk cost of bandwidth as more and better infrastructure comes on line. Since a year ago, my hosting package has stayed at the same price, but the permitted storage has doubled and the bandwidth has gone from a limited level I thought I was in danger of breaching even with my little site (<150,000 pages/mo) to unlimited.

Two things, One, as Teddy said, it is you, not me. I am certain 99% of people will side with me here.
Second of all, post under one name, or not at all. Site Boss, can we get some confirmation that Handbuilt is a Highlandpro alias please? After all, you joined today, and have done nothing but post in this thread... strange, no? Although he is making an offer on the frame?
And, for MDCC tester, That is a maybe. However, the forum has grown. I do not know current costing figures. That is one for Velocio.

Per moth in highlandpro's wallet?
