  • this is very puzzling, i've just been rejected a pay monthly phone contract due to poor credit report. this is the first time applying for one in the uk although i've lived here for a while

-i've lived in UK on and off for 6 years
    -i'm on the electoral role
-have had a bank account (never overdrawn)
-have had 2 credit cards (never overdrawn or defaulted)
-never had any court cases etc
    -never had any debts

i refuse to pay £15 for the so called help from one of the companys
    https://www.econsumer.equifax.co.uk/consumer/uk/landing.ehtml?^start=&companyName=O2C_ukcps

although i see you can get a statutory report for £2, although not sure i can get the answers from that

bummer, looks like i will have to buy the phone outright and buy a sim deal.

  • That's ridiculous. I have fucking awful credit and i've had 4 mobile phone contracts so far.

Not that the above helps you at all.

  • you can get a free credit report from experian, you sign up then cancel it i think. my girlfriend did it, turned out a bank had her confused with somone else at a similar address. sorted it all out with a letter.

  • it may be linked to your address as previous tenants can fault your record

  • Nelson is right, sign up for trial then cancel it.
That said you can't clear it straight away. you can only work on improving it.

I looked at getting a mortgage years ago and was refused on my credit. paid the money, got the report and i got 13 pages detailing all the credit cards and accounts people tried to open in my name. well i say my name. they used similar addresses, similar spellings etc etc

when i moved around london i was at a few flats and mail left in the hallway gets picked up and details used to apply. i did nothing wrong but i still had to talk to my bank about getting a loan to pay off over 3 years to get my credit score up to speed

its a kick in the balls man, Lloyds now offer you a service to stop people from stealing you money.. you are charged nearly £10 a month.
Now in my book, you are a fucking bank, looking after my money is what you do. if anyone is stealing my money its you.. at £10 a month gready pricks.. cashier didn't like that.

but at least i stopped there. lloyds let me save my money in an account that went down to .5% interest and failed to tell me a new saving account came out that i could transfer it to. instead they called me to offer me a loan.. more debt! you utter cunts!

  • It is probably because you have no credit record.
Funnily enough, the more in debt you have been, the better your credit rating is. Provided of course, that you have always paid it back.

Because you have never had any debts you have NO credit rating, which in their eyes is almost as bad as as NEGATIVE rating

  • Besides Dogs, Bad credit isn't meaningless... its a crime!

  • So what do you do after you get the £2 report?

  • Yeah, get a report and post it on here.. I got a mate who used to be a general in the nigerian army, i reckon we could come to some sort of a deal

  • I had this problem with orange still not sure why it happend but writing to both the bank and orange saying i had perfect credit history and could they shed any light fixed this problem.

  • It's a pain to get the reports but worth checking. Even though you are are on the electoral role it might not match as the council could have it down as say house 11 when you live in flat 11. Little things like this can trip up credit checks.

i use my credit card, but always pay it back. i understand what you mean, but how can you get accepted for a credit card and use it for ages but still no rating?? plus, having lots of savings.

the address is definitely correct on the electoral role.

    bastards.

  • I was refused a credit card from santander bank and went to look at my credit report and everything is ok. i don't get it either.

  • the credit companies make their money from late payments and interest. people with a bad credit history make them more cash. a bad credit history is different to no credit history.

  • They saw photos of you in a mankini and thought better of it, simple!

  • a moderate credit score is far better to get cards / phones / loans because you'll make more money for the bank. My wife has a full-time job, good saver, hates credit cards, never been in debt, never had a contract phone, and can't get a store card.

I'm unemployed, £17k ish in debt (extended studenty-ness), a piss-poor credit record, missed direct debits, £20 late charges on £4 credit card bills out of laziness, and Natwest are STILL throwing money at me, even after I explained my change in circumstances.

Electoral Roll, landline phone, all good places to start. Moving around less is harder, but worth doing, for some reason banks think people who are long-term in one house are more likely to pay back.

I just moved to France though, and banking charges are upfront. It's about 40-60 a year for an account with a visa card, and the bill will go through the roof if you miss payments, etc etc. Legal cap on borrowing = repayments not to exceed 33% of income, term of loan not to take you past retirement age.

  • They don't want your business. Tell them to fuck off and go somewhere else.

  • yeah stop whining like a bitch

  • yeah stop whining like an Aussie

    Fixed.

  • Maybe they just hate you?

  • surely if i have a shit record, then its better to send me the phone then they can rape me with charges?

although i bet its to do with my address and living in a flat. for some even stupider reason, i can't pay stuff online sometimes because the checks at the end don't match the text field, even though everything is there. grrr!!!

  • They're racists.

Nexus One + SIM = WIN.

  • want a HD2 for now, bigger screen ;)

can you even get a sim with poor credit report though??

  • have you not seen the wire?

  • ok, finally getting somewhere on annualcreditreport.co.uk i'm absolutely fine, they have all my bank details going back to 2003, electoral roll etc.

but on equifax, the company that o2 use, it doesn't have half the info.

do i bother trying to update equifax with details or tell o2 to use the other people?
