*A *senior policeman “came close to death” after a cyclist almost ran him over before fleeing.Camden borough Chief Supt Dominic Clout, on his way to work in Holborn, then chased the cyclist who “gave me the finger”. He was speaking at a town hall debate on whether bicycles should have registration plates.

he is quite right to fear for his life, the statistics show there is around 1 pedestrian killed every 3 -4 years by a cyclist. SOMETHING MUST BE DONE!!

His details of the incident are a bit thin on the ground... to say the least.

He'd probably been sharing a spliff with the guys hanging out by the bridge before stepping out into the road

if a cyclist 'nearly kills' a pedestrian, its usually because the pedestrian has walked into the road without looking properly!

It means this, and this only : "....The POlice want registrations so they can persecute cyclicts in the same way they do drivers. You watch, it will mean thousands of fines and lots of cash for the Met...."

About 10/15 years ago (not sure nowadays), this was a reality in Portugal, license plates on bicycles.
You'd even need a license to cycle on the road.

Meanwhile, this little chip has become part of any vehicle to circulate the Portuguese roads.
It contains all the info about car, insurance and driver.

I've had pedestrians run in to me whilst walking on the pavement. Number plates for pedestrians are obviously needed urgently. Number plates screwed to arse cheeks ftw.
