Tell me about it, The council seem intent on getting rid of anything that is unique to this place and converting it into one big generic shopping mall/office tower land.
Did anyone go to the meeting about Digbeth re-generation at Ikon Eastside last year? Some interesting points were made there.

see http://www.lfgss.com/thread36299-3.html for a kraft/cadbury argument.
I'm from Brum, and that's why I've taken this latest capitalist movement a bit to heart. I live in London, but recently have become sick and tired with the government only concentrating on the capital, leaving the rest of the country to spoil. It's just not on.

TBF though this is the way the world has been going for the last x amount of years, you cant really be surprised, especially given how few people try to oppose it.

I was really pissed off when powell (the gunsmiths) closed. I pass that place everytime I go into town and loved the olde british gent feel of a hunting shop which made some of the worlds best rifles upstairs.
(apologies to the vegans)
The cadbury thing has pissed me off too, my dentist is based inside the cadbury factory and it feels magical visiting the place. Like a kid in willy wonkas factory, quite surreal.

Brilliant business plan in opening a dental surgery in a Chocolate factory.
Hmmmmm AA in the GH may be my next idea lol

it seems like i'm experiencing more pricks lately. examples from today:
1) leave work to get some food from the market, attention is drawn to shouting sound from passing car - 20something asian guy leans out of window 'what are you looking at you white fuck'. (what really amused me about this is how he clearly had under-developed racism - i am white and white is not a pejorative term. at least call me a honky or white devil or something).
2) riding home from work, in the dark, on slip road not far from my place. cyclist with no lights is startled by my good quality 'to see with' light and shouts: 'stupid bright light you twat'. i was too surprised to really let my blood boil.
3) guy comes into bike shop asks 'i'm just stopping off at the anchor for a few pints, do you mind if i park in your carpark?' (maybe vulnerable road users are not the best people to ask for free parking while you get pissed).

should have said yes then let his tyres down (either via valve release or slashment, depending on what side of the law you want to stay on...)
who knows though, he might have meant pints of lemonade.

You should have taken his reg number down and gone to the Police and say you where racially abused and the cyclist behind you is happy to be a witness.

I think all that EDL stuff has rekindled some racial tensions that were mostly left in the early 90's
The idea that people were racist to each other, the existence of skinheads/nazi punks/Nfront etc was a forgotten memory that a whole generation of young people did not even know about.
But this EDL stuff has recreated the idea/image that people are out to get each other.
For delinquent urban yoots (lacking in intelligence) this spells suspicion/fear of "others" who will obviously become a target for some agression.
I have noticed this happening both ways already. I certainly wouldnt go by myself to somewhere like kingstanding at the moment.

doesnt the EDL have both asian and black members too ? i thought the idea was that it isnt a racist group, they are nationalists not racists, pro english, not pro white etc

thats the guise they try to portray but if you read any of their propaganda or see how they behave at their demos, its pretty obvious what they really believe.

Nice.
So with Kraft taking over Cadburys, I wonder whats the future of bham? Last time Kraft took over a UK based chocolate company (Terrys) they shut it down!
Theres no real industries left in our industrial city (as far as I know), shops closed left, right and centre in town when the bullring arrived, now shops IN the bullring are closing down and we have one of the highest unemployment rates in the country. Whats going on?! Is there anything promising on the horizon, except more yuppie flats being built, just to remain unoccupied or unfinished??
