  • I did post about this a little while ago and got a little bit of input but the plan has since changed and any help would be massively appreciated, as I don't really know where to start.

A couple of friends and I are planning on heading down to Marseilles in August to skate, party, cycle etc and literally have no clue where's good to stop on the way. We're making a couple of weeks of it but would prefer to avoid massive detours. Google maps is sending us Paris - Orleans - Montpellier - Marseilles when asked to avoid toll roads.

Would this be a good route in terms of things to do and nightlife and that kind of stuff? Also we want to camp, so that needs to be considered (cheap poor students).

    TIA

  • I know France.
It is south of London, and north of Barcelona.

  • the-smiling-buddha lives in Paris.

  • Vee Vee is from the beautiful country know as France too, she may see this too with some luck.

  • Try Lolo too.

  • Or that Nicolas Sarkozy fella.... i hear he's french.

  • Napoleon.... he was French.

  • I hear it's full of cowards... Just tellin' you what I heard...

  • I have only cycled in Brittany (on a single speed Peugeot) to stalk English boys.

  • Napoleon.... he was French.

    He a relation? ;)

  • Or Gerard Depardieu...

  • Pistanator may be able to help too.

Where is he by the way?

  • L'arrondisment du Streatham

  • Are you cycling to Marseilles an then staying there or driving/train/flying there then cycling about and skating etc?

I was cycling through there last year and saw some of the most beautiful scenery I've ever seen.
Also if you camping you're probably gonna have to do it on the outskirts as it's fairly built up.

  • This is where we went (Calanques), amazing:

  • Populated by cheese eating surrender monkeys, so I'm told.

  • La fete de Bayonne is from the 28th July-1st Aug. Its not on the way to Marseilles, but if you want to take the long way, you will not be disappointed. Its a mental 3 day street party, atmosphere is great. Manu Chao played it last year and i'm so gutted i missed out :(

  • I'd recommend hugging the Atlantic coast (skip Brittany, full of wild-eyed pagan types) then skirting the Pyrenees 'til you get to the Med... I've done this, wanna do it again...

  • ASk Oliver. He's German. Germans know a thing or two about France.

  • Like the quickest, most stress free route to Paris?

  • ^ Bang! Frenchies duck

We'll be driving mostly, as neither of my companions are particularly keen cyclists. We were thinking of taking 4 days to get there and 4 days back, with a week in Marseilles its self or the outskirts of. How far out is the outskirts?

  • I nearly did a trip like this with some mates of mine this summer. One of my mates did some reasearch about Marseille skate park and apparently it can be quite dodgy around there, especially for non locals, it in a rough area. How much of that is true I don't know.
