Can i fit 120mm hubs in 130mm spacing?

  • pretty much that.

    Can i?

    not just physically....should i?

  • You are not the first to ponder this question...

Have a little search and a google and you might just find the answer to your question.

  • It's probably not a good idea as getting a good chainline would be difficult. Would be better to find a 130mm hub and build that up instead.

  • hmmm, seems that its quite an issue huh?

Could i get longer axles and use spacers?

  • I run Miche track hubs in a 130 mm spaced frame. The axle is plenty long enough and I use some washers to space out the axle to fit the frame. I solved the chainline issue by having more spacers on the non-drive side so the rear wheel is slightly off centre but I don't notice this when I'm riding.

  • I asked this question as well not so long ago on here. Searched, read everything that all the internet gurus had to say. Then horatio stepped in and just stick the wheel in there and tighten it up. Did it nice and slowly on each side. Chainline is just peachy.
Note - This was on a cheap carbolite pug frame. Definitely not a good idea to do it with something nicer i'd imagine...

Also done this with mine, no problems at all. Well except when you're lining the wheel up in the dropouts you have to remember that when the tyre is right in the middle of the chainstays, it's not actually pointing straight =P

    does this cause any problems?

I think i might just go for it.......!

(in case you're wondering, I have a Graham Weigh 853 frame and i'm looking to fit DA 7600's)

  • No problems, it's just that when i'm lining the wheel up in the dropouts, I usually aim to have it in the middle of the chainstays, as it's the easiest way to make sure it's straight, it's just that you can't do that in this case as the hub isn't in the centre, well mine isn't as that would've given me a crap chainline. Hasn't caused any problems though, just go for it, it'll be fine.

  • wicked stuff.

i think i'll do it. cheers for the help chaps!

    :)

  • Pfft, nuts with a stripped thread also do the job =P

If like me, you've got a load of them hanging around...
