• I need to post some wheels to Japan, the box is 65x65x30cm. It is between £120ish (DHL) and £177(parcelforce) to send it, which is crazy. I have got quotes from all of the other big places, FedEx, UPS etc and they are all in that price range.

Anyone know of another company that would be cheaper?

  • I don't get postage either. I was being quoted almost $40 for the postage of a shim! A three gram bloody SHIM!?!

  • Could try Yamato Transport; it's a Japanese company with European offices and I remember getting a quote years ago that was very reasonable.

Check the money saving expert thread on discount couriers too; you'll be getting quoted a 'rack' rate as an individual but people sell their trade- priced capacity on Ebay etc. though size of parcel may be a problem. Wheels get pricy to post because they are priced by volume usually. Your box would be priced as if it weighed 21kg+ :(

  • What's the total weight?

Sometimes it's cheaper to send in separate boxes.

  • At those prices you might as well spend the extra money and just fly there yourself.

  • Kuro Neko (Black Cat) might do it for cheaper. It's a Japanese company: courier service, packages, and I know people who have used it here. It might be worth googling for information.

  • i've heard japan is quite far away, might have something to do with the price

  • I just found a receipt for a pair of Shamals I sent to Japan in April.

£69.99 tracked using Royal Mail/Parcel Force

    The weight was 3.5kg

The price doubles when you go over 4kg

  • Sign up to Interparcel - www.interparcel.com. They use their aggregator position to get great prices for shipping. I sent a frame to Denmark using them via DHL for £18.

  • Cool
I'll pop in to the post office. How did you pack them? The problem is the size, its 26Kg volumetric, according to the quote on the parcel force website, that size comes to £177!

Maybe if I just go in with the box it will be £69.99

I'll try the other options if not. Cheers for all the advice.

Cheers, already tried the. £128 is their cheapest option. :-(

Last time I accidental list wheels available for international shipping.

  • Tell me about it. Sold a pair of rims to a guy in Finland a couple of years back, RM wanted £80. I got a colleague to take them on a work trip and he posted them in Finland for 7 euro plus a pint for his troubles.

  • Cool

Yeah, those quotes always scare me but when you go directly to Post Office it's usually cheaper.

    Still depends on weight though[t].

    How heavy is your package?

PM your email and I'll send photos of box and receipt.

Not check, but I guess under 4kg. I'll check in a minute when I get home.

  • i will take them for the very reasonable price of a return first class plane ticket.

  • If its heavy you may want to consider sending it sea-freight.

    Use this:

  • All sorted. Parcel farce prices are nothing like as bad as their website. Went in, 79 quid. Bosh, Sorted.

  • Giz, you old wheeler dealer.

  • Any updates on this? Cheapest I can find online for a boxed frame approx 95cm x 65cm x 21cm is £110'ish.

Out of curiosity can any of the Dutchies on here tell me how much to send a frame to Japan from NL?

  • I was looking up prices for posting a frame within the UK recently and was getting ridiculous quotes like that, hardly any under £100. Took it to the post office, £30. I dunno if Dutch PO is like this or maybe you've already tried?

  • Think I might just try the local PO. Thanks

Just to make it clear I am not Dutch nor living in NL, I was just thinking about sending it to one of our friends in NL then for them to send it on to Japan. Possibly.

  • Oh right, sorry.

Yeah, jump down the PO with it and it'll be buttons I'll bet.
