  • Looks bigger than a Chub hub ;D

    Peace!

  • Wow.

    Want.

    Need.

    Dibs.

    Etc.

  • chain fail

  • shite!

  • one brake fail. unless it has engine braking...

  • Hoops has already ordered one...

  • for when the chub hub just isn't big enough

  • Hoops has already ordered one...

I heard that he's so small he'll be getting inside it and using it as a hamsters wheel.

No idea if this is true though, teenslain is a notorious liar.

  • this is unspeakably retarded, unveiling something at an international climate change convention that makes a bicycle (a pretty 'green' way to get about) more damaging to the environment. But mostly it looks like a ghost bike and that freaks me out. That is like inviting electricution.

  • So you have to use it with a "smart" phone too? I don't want to be riding around with my iPhone on my handlebars. I have enough shame in taking it out of my pocket, I don't want to look like an even greater pretentious toss bag with it pride of place on my handlebars...

    Trudat...

Agreed, what a fucking nonsense. I suppose it wouldn't have seemed interesting enough just to present a normal bike.

Actually not very retarded at all. The link above presents a much more informative article. The power is generated when you brake and can be re-used later to push you along. Not sure how the rest of the scheme for green points etc will work in reality but the mechanics of it look pretty innovative to me. Of course it's no good for your training but not everyone is a hard core roadie, trackie, off roadie or fixie skidder.

How is it more harmful to the environment? the production of the 'hub'? surely that is a one off, and if it encourages people to ride more then will be offset quite quickly. if you just mean its use of electricity, it is all powered by cyling so is green

  • it is red

  • not exactly elegant.

  • It's about 500 times nicer than those rediculous electric bikes I keep seeing, though.

    +1

  • I'm just saying that it's not exactly making a bicycle any greener. Any battery is going to have nasty elements in it that are often the product of fairly high impact mining and then associated refining. Also the plastic casing is likely to be oil based, something we really need to move away from in our mindset.

The time spent inventing that could have been used researching ways to reduce the impact of mining ores etc which make up the tube work of our beloved steeds. Or indeed looking at ways to protect and ensure clean water for the world. Copenhagen is a bit of a media excercise at the moment and I just feel that is a bit of a shame as a great deal more good could come out of it. I like it as a fun invention, it's a bit Wipeout/Crazy Taxi, but as a serious proposal it ihas a way to go to be convincing or really that usefull.

I personally prefer to get my bursts of speed from a bottle of HTFU that I keep on my bike at all times. A quick shot of that and it's good by Ferrari! Seriously though, I'm monsterously slow.

I like the conversation that's going on about this, hopefully one of us will be inspired to solve the global climate change issue and bring us all into the 'green economy'!

You think the developers of this would be the right people/have the knowledge to have looked at those things instead?

  • Don't get me wrong, they are creative. I think if they are capable of inventing that then they might well have something to offer in the mechanical side of production. They have identified something they see as a problem and have found a solution. But you are right to call me on that, i was generalising. And thats bad.

  • I like how round it is.

  • Looks like a giant baby bell.

  • lol, That's it! I knew it reminded me of something. Or simply a whole edam cheese.
