  • who makes otp modern frames with racing geometry and fg/ss suitable?

  • sorry - what wrong with the question then?

i do want to run a fixed wheel
i dont want to mess around with vertical drop outs
i dont want an old frame / try to match old components
    i dont want track geometry
i do want road racing geometry

    does anybody make such frames...

i'm thinking cyclocross single speed frames might be closest.

if i'm being a cretin be good enough to explain why..

    UTFS, Coco...

I think the use of the vague term 'race' was the problem. People 'race' on DH bikes, 'race' on the track etc. Although I guessed you meant racing bike geometry. As DFP demonstrated thre ar lots of complete bikes in this category. I cant think of loads of frames though.

    This is a great resource.

Although I think te frames are mainly track geo.

The Bob Jackson Vigorelli is often described as semi-track though.

The Kinesis Decade convert is standard Alu road fair, with track-ends.

SomaFab make a nice steel ones:

The Salsa casserol is availible as a frameset, has horizontal drop-outs, and loads of braze-ons.

Theres probably a fair few more.....

Its unbelievably, opaquely stupid. It shows a complete disregard for what has been discussed ad infinitum within this forum, and answered not only individually many times, but in LIST form. Would it be hard to simply identify the bike you like, then Google if the frame is available separately (based on the bikes in the OTP List)? There is also a Track/Single Speed Frames List, that you seemed to not have bothered to search for. We don't mind helping, but if you don't make any effort other than to glibly turn and ask us to hold your hand, wipe your nose, etc......we won't. UTFS. It will do you good.

I'm so tired I've gone through grumpy and out the other side. Call me 'placid smilie pants'. :) zzzzzzzz

Forgot to mention the cyclocross list. Its complete bikes, but some are available as framesets.

My next commuter/cyclocross frame will be a Surly Cross Check (if I dont go for disk brakes).

  • I hate to stick up for what might look like a stupid Q, but I think he's asking which GEARED OTPs are SS/F suitable.
    SmallFurry sorted him out!

anyhow, the Cannondale looks to be a winner.
App. based entirely on the geo of the CAAD5....

    Good call
I could'nt remember if they were avaiable as F&F.

  • love that Soma... it would be captain awesome if the seat lug was chrome too

  • I hate to stick up for what might look like a stupid Q, but *I think he's asking which GEARED* OTPs are SS/F suitable.

Really? Because that seems to be at odds with carson's statement:

*i dont want to mess around with vertical drop outs*

That led me to the conclusion the he was after track ends/dropouts. Maybe I erred.

now that i've been sorted out...i do appreciate your help and think the forum is a valuable resourse and I did utfs and looked through threads here listing frames BUT from what I have found, modern frames with track ends or something approaching horizontal drop outs are either built for the track (which i dont want) or are designed with shorter top tubes far a more upright position (than you would find on a road racing bike) with a view to cyclocross or what they are calling urban / city riding -

this is true of some of the frames posted above at least- there a many there I've not seen so thanks for posting.

  • umm, horizontal???
    which are perfectly F/SS suitable???
you know some geared bikes have those still- like th Cross check and the Salsa..

    brain = off
    fingers = on
switch the two around and you're on to a winner!

this post should be taken with a pinch of salt as I am only teasing.
Just in case that doesn't come across clearly in the writing

but i did use the cunting search and came up with lists of track frames / cyclocross frames and 'urban / city' frames, all with short top tubes, upright riding positions etc

Joe teenfail, if I were not so busy I would find every post where you have told me to shut up etc, it would clearly demonstrate your inability to ignore me!

The short top tubes found on track bikes, is not for an upright position. But is more a result of the steep seat tube, which is designed to lean you forward into an uber agressive position, on deep-drop track bars.

...or its for better visability in traffic, together with risers. I forget which came first ;)

    interesting - appreciated.
