Wouldn't say you're an idiot, the person who sold it to you is. Trying a 54 may have made your mind up one way or another and any uncomfortableness will only really show up when you ride longer distances. A spin around the block is just an indication. Everyone has their own opinion and everyone of a given height has slightly different body/leg/arm lengths, but imo it is better to have a frame that is slightly too small than slightly too big if you have to choose.
I'm 6'1" and ride a 56 square at the moment running risers and 100mm stem, also showing a lot of seatpost but lengthwise it's sweet.

Dont be stupid, Crispin. His pushbike will NEVER fit in an oven.

He needs a kiln.

I don't see how traditional Scottish dress is going to help here.

He could charge across the boggy moor, broadsword aloft, with a blood curdling scream and ask for a refund.

Ha, I actually predicted the shrink response, either that or HTFU and get my body stretched in a rack.
Stem is 70mm

I am 4cm taller than you and fit a 54 perfectly. Take it back.

Get your body stre... oh.
I dont know Evans returns policy but I reckon you need to take it back. If your nuts are on the top tube, its too big. They should know this.

Their return policy just states showroom condition. But they were the ones that suggested the 56 so I'll take it back. get them to switch it for a 54. If not I'll just start resting my nuts on stuff around the store till they do take it back.

I would start with the chins of the staff.

Did you buy this bike in Rutland? If so, an archaic but still valid law states that you can pulp the firstborn of whoever sold you the bike and drink the flesh smoothie, but it only works in that county.

Me 173. RR I ride 54. TT even smaller. But I ride a 56 fixed no problem. In fact feel it gives me more control. But i am anal with all my measurements so the frame is big but the stem drops etc. all fit around it. But then leg length can differ as well. Hence your nuts on the top bar... I gots long legs... I'm not saying you're a stumpy BTW.

yeah as soul said i'm just a touch taller than you too and i have a 54cm fuji and it fits me perfect. def. take it back dude, you'll do alot of damage riding it otherwise.

I'll def. organise a return at lunch. I'm gonna drink 3 cups of coffee to. try and stink them into submission with coffee breath.
It looks like, or should I say feels like I bought the wrong size fuji track. What a muppet.
The bike is a 56 cm with a 70mm stem and lo profile risers. With my saddle set to the right height there's about 12cm from the clamp to the rails. And I could possibly lose another cm for a perfect fit.
I'm about 173cm.
I can ride the bike fine but I do feel a touch stretched and there's almost no standover room. There is bits resting on the top tube. Also after each commute my lower back does hurt, indicating a non-ideal position.
For some reason when I tested the bike I didn't feel any of this (must be something in the air at evans) and the guy managed to convince me a 54 would be too small even though I asked several times. I guess he just wanted the sale.
Should I take it back and swap for a 54?
They should do it even though I have put 60 miles on it already.
I understand bike fit is a personal thing and giving an unseen view over the interweb is not ideal. But I did search a few threads on the matter and it seems almost everyone of my height rides a 54 and people a lot taller than me are happy on the 56.
Anyway, I'm pissed at myself for making a rash decision. Hopefully they can swap it. If not who wants to swap?!?
