  • I would like to get a decent chian for my bike, which cost £150, so am looking to spend £20-35. I like the idea of a chain lock, but have heard some bad things about them.... What lock do ya reckomend for that price?

  • Search LOCKS.

Then when you find the **LOCKS THAT WORK **thread, you can rest easier.

  • Now now don't be a lazy susan Stuart.

  • tried that... but unfortunately, I dont want to spend £70 on a "lock that works"

any chance i can pick up somthin cheap and secure for my badly purchaced £150 ebay build?

    that too much too ask?

  • yes, now go back to what GA2G said

  • If you don't want a lock that works why lock it at all? Save weight and use string perhaps?
My locks are worth more than my bike as the incovenience of having it nicked far outweighs the cost of the locks.

  • Have i upset u guys or somthing?

and thanks jammy, thats actualy pretty much what i was looking for....

  • Well it is a topic that has been quite well covered. And a bit of searching on your end wouldn't have gone amiss, but hey ho, you got a link you were looking for.

Not so much as upsetting guys here as you getting honest responses in the first couple posts. The first reply was from a guy who spent, presumably, long hours compiling lists of locks, anecdotes and details along with links to where to buy. You can't blame him for taking umbrage.

The next reply is a rather friendly welcoming, all things considered. And to be honest, I think he's been waiting for a lazy susan chance (although it did make me think of the rotating spice racks back home).

Within the first five comments you got one that helped you. No surprise, as this place is great for finding answers with the amount of tribal knowledge here. You didn't get ffs, utfs, utfb noob etc. Hardly a response to ruffle your feathers. Next time utfs and you'll probably find that helpful answer quicker with no worries about upsetting anyone.

  • woah! I am sorry for any offence i have caused....

    Wont bother u guys again....

    (utfs?)

  • highlight your mouse over the dotted line - it mean 'use the fucking search'.

you're not the first lazy susan to come upon here, do not be surprised to expect a somewhat sporadic hostile respond, especially in the Lock That Work topic have what you're looking for.

  • Ed your obsession with oriental rotating trays is beginning to worry me.

  • IM SORRY!

i admit i did not read the thread...

    SORRY...

  • Calm down, you made a mistake. You've been pointed in the right direction. It's okay.

  • The lock I use costs 14.50.

If you had followed my advice, and only bothered to read the first post, you would have seen that.

    There's a Matrox lock that's 19mm (bar diameter) and that's approximately £25.oo.

  • woah! I am sorry for any offence i have caused....

    Wont bother u guys again....

    (utfs?)

They're an aggressive, territorial bunch those fixie-skidders. You will need to read a bit more to observe their arcane rituals and heirarchy before posting things that will raise their hackles like 'what tyres/gear ratio/lock do you guys use?' And don't post a video of cool tricks on a fixed gear you saw on some other site because it will undoubtedly have been posted eleventy times before. Use the search before asking questions. Nine times out of ten you will find your answer.

And get a slightly thicker skin.

    :^)

  • GA2G, you were just complaining about new people not coming on here. That's hardly welcoming. I admit mine was meant to be a light-hearted jape but could be construed as a bit dickish. Apologies.

He's new, he has questions, he made a common mistake. Hey ho, all's well in London.

edit: although you did provide more information, so maybe I'm being the sensitive sybil. <-- I need more colloquialisms.

  • IM SORRY!

i admit i did not read the thread...

    SORRY...

And don't say SORRY.. It only conveys a certain.. weakness. A weakness that will undoubtedly be preyed upon by the pack.

    HTFU.

  • I have spent the last hour compairing amazon reviews of various D locks, mini D locks Aand chains. Having only ever bought 1 cable lock, i thought it might have been acceptable to get some advise on what kind of lock to get from some more experienced cylclists.

I didnt know what a mini d lock was until today....

    ..im sorry i asked...

  • Shakes head..

  • Crys in corner..

  • i thought it might have been acceptable to get some advise on what kind of lock to get from some more experienced cylclists.

This is where you went wrong. We have covered it on the site before, and if you used the mighty search function you would have found what you were looking for...

...without having to ask a thing!

Now you tell me, would you feel better having had found this out on your own or if you asked someone?

  • Common mistake. Live and learn.

I haven't been here long. I've been told off. Now I feel like I'm taking the role of the elder juvenile penguin in that marching penguins movie. Where I've had a bit taken out of a flipper by a vicious seal and am showing a young penguin the danger. There's a slippery slope that leads to the water where seals and killer whales are or there is the vast open icy area.

That vast open icy area represents all the cycling wisdom out there. That slippery slope can either get you to the vast, icy knowledge of fixed gears or straight into a sea lion's mouth. That's the difference between searching and starting threads.

I am not a marine biologist, nor have I seen any penguin documentary that I can remember but I am pretty sure that's how a penguin's life goes. I am also on some heavy duty painkillers and a touch of medicinal whisky.

  • Crys in corner..

The youngling is catching on.. Run.. run free O Stuartonlondonfixedgear..

No ill is meant.. But you have now learnt. And it's not as harsh as it could have been. Thankfully most of the nutters are too drunk by now to log on.
