  • sorry - wrong forum should have been miscellaneous

  • If you PM Velocio, speedball, he'll move the thread for you.

  • thanks andy... i'll do that

  • I stopped paying attention when i read

coined in the Sunday Times and now enthusiastically picked up by the Daily Mail.

  • Plenty of people have been on about iPod-wearing peds as well as cyclists being ignorant and fucking stupid. I think this bit of journo-speak will be adopted by many, it's very apt.

I wish it could have been a bit more directed at iPods in general, not just cyclists.

iPod zombies, my new favourite bugbear.

  • iPod zombies, my new favourite bugbear

mostly seen around Oxford Street, wandering out from behind a bus

  • I admit, sometimes I listen to music but only when it's like 1-5am, and majority of the times it's cruising the canals and rivers of London, and back streets.

Dare I listen on a daily commute, I give you permission to slap me.

    Love the term iPod Zombie.

  • I don't think I have been on a bike in the last 10 years without an ipod/walkman (except for perhaps a handful of times) - so put me down as a iPod Zombie.

yeah but you are listening to recordings of traffic, interspersed with the screams from your dying farmyard victims. So it doesn't count.

    Fucking classic!

    But it's still music.

    Sweet sweet music.

  • I can't even walk along the road with a set of ear phones in ... I lose all awareness of what is going on around me. Though I suspect other people deal better than myself.

I had the wind whistling directly into my ear and it was affecting my concentration on the commute home ....

  • The zombie community have so far been strangely disengaged in the project of making cycling take over the world. But since we've had cycle training, even they have learned how to ride in a straight line, so it's all good and all to be welcomed.

To react slightly to the "newspapers'" trolling on this issue, yes, distractions like iPod-wearing reduce cyclists' awareness. But as so often, the hypocritically-overcooked are merely transplanting a topic that is of the greatest concern to people who have to drive all the time, namely the worry about not being able to see/notice what's going on around them so well (which is more difficult in a car than on a bike, although not to the extent that SMIDSY is ever a valid excuse), onto cyclists and somehow try to project this away from themselves. Not worth noticing much. Sorry, mate, didn't see your topic.

Now, are you sure you don't mean the street? ;P
