  • I knew this would happen at some point, I didn't realise they came out in April.

  • yeah i see a review of them a few weeks back on bike radar ! maybe santa will bring me some

Saw the Vans ones back in August, but they seem really, really chunky. I will wait til see them in person before possibly getting some. Going clipless first might help too...

  • I've had the 661's , they're ok, but ugly .....

not as ugly as these , only available in white now too....

  • does the little sole bit cover the cleat for walking or does it only fit in when there is no cleat attached?

If there anything like the 661 versions, once the rubber piece of sole is removed thats it it doesn't got back in...

  • I would rate these personaly

  • those vans are pretty nice lookin' .. £85 is overpriced, though. £45 is more like it.

  • Oh yeah, how'd you work that out?

  • I can't tell whether they will work with Egg Beaters but I'm pretty new to all this clipless nonsense.

  • I still say they look like 'special' shoes

the 661's are bloody heavy, I'm still on the search for a casual type shoe that is velcro strap only - laces are just annoying.
Should've saved those Adidas I had and converted em Ma3k style.

  • These look like special shoes in a totally awful, Avril Lavigne circa 2002 kinda way. I'd be interested in a modified/stiffened Vans Era shoe, but until then... nah.

Ha, snap! Good call Claire; they could only be worse if they were bright blue with giant velcro closures.

  • Bike Radar slate them - shame they have so many faults as they look half decent

**"We’ve been waiting for a new clipless-compatible shoe from Vans for ages, so we were super-excited when the Warner hit our desks.

That initial enthusiasm soon turned to disappointment. Firstly, the slots for the shoe plates are too far forward, at least 1cm further than all the shoes we compared them to. The downhill riders these shoes are aimed at tend to place the shoe plate quite far back to emulate the foot position of flat pedals, which simply isn’t possible with these.

Our next issue was comfort. The uppers are perfectly comfortable and the good old-fashioned laces with Velcro closures are fine. The problem is the sole. It’s very flat and has a thin insole that provides no contoured support, particularly around the ball of the foot, where a lot of pressure is concentrated.

We actually got numbness in the soles of our feet while using them and mild bruising from longer, rougher rides. The shoe plate isn’t recessed enough either, so you walk on it, making hard, wet surfaces treacherous.
Vans have said that they are investing in new tooling to produce a more up-to-date and lighter outsole. But until they get around to putting a decent sole on this great looking upper, these shoes are best avoided."**

talkin' to me? well .. you're basically paying twice because they're 'cycle-specific'. I mean, how much more does it cost them to make them, to put a little SPD-compatible insert in them? nothing.

a similar pair sans SPD will be around £40.

How do you figure that adding a stiffened midsole, cleat attachment plate and the cut-able outersole will cost Vans "nothing"?

  • Now I want these with padded insert and SPD Converse

  • well.... i just bought a pair.
so you can see me looking 'special' soon.

    Yay
I'm getting some for crimbo (not the vans) and i am very exited

Giro could incorporate this style into their new helmet collection

With a wispy little tash to go with?

  • Yep. And those arm warmers with tatts.

That I would definitely be interested in. When they first announced Vans Fixed I thought that's what they would be, but no... you get a standard pair of Vans with a reflective patch where the Vans logo should be on the sole... and a fancy drawing of Surly cogs in the insole.

    No, not Vans Fixed.
