Just to add tuppence to the thread,
I have just finished my joe waugh and I have to say that it is (so far) the best damned frame I have ridden...and I have gone through a few, if anyone knows if dave yates was making these frames for M.Steels in the early eighties it would be nice to know.
It is a 653 from about '83-'85 and is a tight road frame...It rolls so amazingly well, it really, really surprised me...I have been grinning from ear to ear riding it. I bought it of the man who had it built and he was luckily exactly the same size as me apart from my legs being slightly longer (1/2 inch) and that he was a guy (is there a difference?)...though it fits me so nicely. He had an amazing woodrup tt frame that made mine seem heavy though it ended up being a bit too much than I wanted to pay...
I'm sure this would be a beautiful bike to ride and a pleasure to own.

Thanks for that spontaneous supporting statement, yes great frames and yes Dave Yates was building frames there during the 80s.

My mate had a gorgeous waugh a few years ago in celeste that he found in a skip! it was 531 as well, lasted a good 2 years then the top tube rusted through and it gave up the ghost. Such a shame.

erm, my girlfriend might have this... she is mini though... 5'1" or 5'2" with an inside leg of 28" or 29"...
got a mate in carlisle who could collect - has it horizontal dropouts?

Hi there, I have sent you a pm, yes bike is ready to roll and would certainly suit a small lady if bars and seat were dropped right down, our problem is he has grown about 9" taller while owning this bike :D but we are on the look out for another larger Joe Waugh

More 'dave yates is good for the ladies' stuff, I got an overpriced frame off Hilary when he was still selling on ebay, 19.5" really early Dave Yates, M-steel branded, and it's a beauty, he has a real eye for a classy, elegant frame design. Made it for my girlfriend at the time, she loved the bike, less into me. Bugger. Ducking crap photo's by the way, sort it out!

Well I'm having no luck on here - people express interest then either don't answer their phones or e mails, I'm beginning to develop a conspiracy theory!
Why respond if not reallyinterested? I'm baffledYes the postage is on top of the price, the guy drivingthe van needs to earn a living and we would need to get a carton home and box it all up which is a bit more hassle than somebody calling by and driving off with it, not really unreasonable is it?
We are quite happy to post it on but this must be at the buyer's expense - I quite appreciate that you wouldn't want to drive up from Cornwall to see a bike.Bike has £40 worth of new tyres on and the rest of it must have some value too.........
Anyway rant over :D, anyone looking for a seriously light weight bike for not a lot of money get in touch, please!!
