Changing cups on a campag BB from Italian to English

  • So I have come by a Record 102mm Bottom Bracket, like the one in the pic below. Unfortunately it's Italian threaded, and I need English. Notwithstanding the fact that the threads are a little mashed and the cups have some pretty deep pits in them.

In the Campag spares catalogues, the English cups are listed as BB-RE212 and BB-RE214 (same as for the Record Pista).

Assuming I could get hold of a set of English cups, does anyone have any experience of unscrewing the flanged right hand cup from the BB shell?

First of all both cups just pull off with a bit of pressure, the cups are a very snug fit on the bearings on the axle.

Do you have the italian cups or you going to purchase them ?

  • I don't think the right hand flanged cup just pulls off - from the exploded diagram in the campag spares catalogue it looks like it's threaded, screwed onto the shell.

The BB already has Italian threads, it's English I need.

  • do you have a link to the exploded ? but im 99% sure it pulls off!

  • Yo Dom, the cups definitely do just pull off.

If you look at the installation guide for that BB on page 21 of the Campag BB user manual (Yes I have one in front of me) they show the right cup going on first, then BB body put in place and then left cup being attached.

Its only the Veloce BB that has a fixed right cup attached to body of the BB.

  • Nice one mate, just looked at said instruction manual and you're spot on, didn't realise it came in 3 pieces, EPIC RTFM FAIL on my part.

Will have a go at pulling it off tonight, seemed pretty tight though, could be seized.

@Carlos, I stand corrected, you were right all along.

Now I just have to get the right cups...

  • :) all advise really! that picture does look decieving with the few threads it shows :)

  • Feckers just won't come off, not by had anyway.

Might just fuck it off and buy a new one.

litle tip :) rest the cup on an open vice (if you have one) the gentley tap the axle! dont hit to hard and preload the bearings :)

  • Oh! for a workshop and a vice!

Might have to find a friendly soul or LBS that has such a contraption!
