2009-11-11 - Rider Down/Fatality, Southampton Row/CSM

Last night at 11.30 I saw a lots of police cars, fire engine, and a double decker bus tilted on one side, blue tent, completely taped up right outside CSM, look very serious, possibly fatal.

couldn't tell if it's a peds or a cyclists, that's all I can tell from that point.

Police are appealing for information and witnesses following a road traffic collision on Wednesday 12th November 2009.

At approximately 23:04 hours, a female cyclist was in collision with a bus on Theobalds Road at the junction with Southampton Row WC1N.

LAS attended and the 22-year-old female cyclist was taken by ambulance to a central London hospital. She is currently being treated for a crushed pelvis and her condition is described as critical but stable (non attrib).

No arrests made and enquiries continue.

rode through there today and didn't notice anything unusual.

it's everyone commute, being hit by a bus is something that I don't see everyday, at least her condition is stable.

there has already been one fatality on that junction

I cycled by right after this happened, police were just taping off the road an diverting everyone round by Gt Ormond Street - it looked terrible and I feared the worse. Really hope she recovers well.

it was jacked up, presumably to safety removed the cyclist underneath, presumably.

fuck me this sounds awful. i'm glad she's not dead. on a less sombre note, she'll get a lot of compensation from TfL for this.

severe, severe injury is a crushed pelvis.
I think its 2L of blood loss on average, but not sure.
hopefully she'll be ok again, critical yet stable is still very much critical.
thoughts go out to all involved, most of all the cyclist and her family.

I normally feel pretty safe around buses. Much more so than white van man or an HGV. Really sorry to hear about this accident.

Didn't know Holborn was such a problem (although I don't go there much). Thanks for the warning, I'll be more careful around there in future.

eastbound, the new bus lane isn't open yet, I think it will be in 2010.

from the look of it and I don't like to speculated about it (especially when someone has been hit), the cyclist look like she was turning into theobald from southampton road (north to east) while the bus heading eastbound and colluded at that point.

have some horrible news, i'm afraid - this cyclist died on monday (23/11/09) from her injuries.
fucking sad.
she is a friend of a friend and i have no other details but have sent her this site.
:(
