How much should re-chroming a fork cost?

I got a quote of 50 euro, is this resonable

I think elguapo paid £30 for a bit of chain stay and some forks to be done, and I think mc_nebula paid £20 for some crank arms.

I just paid 35 pound to have a stem rechomed at London Chroming so pricewise sounds good

There are 2 types of chroming AFAIK, single plate and tripple plate.

Chrome doesn't stick to steel very well so they first plate nickel (I think) and then plate with copper. They follow this up with the chrome plate. This is because some metals stick better than others. This is the most durable, but of course, you pay for it. I got my cranks tripple plated, it cost me £20 for each arm.

Single plate will not be as durable, will rust spot faster and peel faster.

Have you tried rubbing it with tin foil first? Its a good way of touching up chrome if its not too bad

I paid £40 to do my Bareknuckle forks in the summer of 07. They bent shortly after in a crash. Tregunna Chrome NW8.

that's wet tin foil (i.e. tin foil and some water) - worked a treat on a partly chromed f&f that I acquired recently.....

Rechroming is not that easy and therefore more expensive than normal chrome plating.
First, you have to get rid of the old plating => stripping.
Then the normal process of chrome plating: polishing and several layers of plating (whatever you want and what the company can do).
I think the quote is not bad.
Check with them if they can "promise" that the fork will come out like new.

Note: this should not be done with very thin tubing.
It's getting even thinner than with normal chrome plating.
753 is not allowed to do chrome plating, absolutely no rechroming.
