Wanted: Short quill stem 22.2 clamp size?!

I bought a pair of Archie Wilkinson speedway handlebars for my gf's bike. They are awesome bars, and have corrected the long top tube issues completely.

However, they are weirdly thin, and according to AW have a clamp size of 22.2mm, which looks to be about right.

They are currently set up on a Shimano 600dx stem, with a couple of shims, but this is not a long even a medium term solution.

Anyone know where I can get a quill stem to take bars of this clamp size?

Anything considered really, but needs to be quite short (max. 80mm), and obviously silver and shiny helps.

Need to use 4 of the ones left over from a set of dirty harry brake levers, and even then it's not solid enough. If you give the bars a decent heave they will move, and I want them to be solid as possible.

Try looking out for an old BMX stem, they take 22.2mm bars.

not sure if it is what you are after- I have a bronzey coloured 4 bolt BMX quilled stem. Can put up pics tonight if you are interested and will be well cheap but have to post :(

I was going to respond by saying that as it will need to replace a particularly nice stem, I was hoping that the new one would be too. Thanks for the offer though, I may well end up getting back to you!

I tried to find a photo of her current stem on the net and I found this ebay ad. Going by the photo its definitely the same stem, but then apparently it IS adjustable down to 22.2...? It's already adjusted as tight as I can get it - with a big allen key and pliers. And that's with 4 shims spread all the way round the bars.

You've got a lot of leverage there, that Shimano stem ain't gonna hold 'em in place, shim or no.
The AW complete bikes have BMX style stems, with 4-bolt arrangements so you can clamp the bars down really tight.
BMX style stems are never going to be as pretty as the Shimano one, but you might be able to find summat like a high polish DK or an S&M Redneck.
