  • Joe Loves Fixed Wheels.

The system is, you buy a wheel to fit your frame.

if your frame requires a 24", 25", 26" or 27" wheel, you buy that size.

700c (700mm) is a size of a rim (roughly 28") however, generally 27" wheels will be ok on a 700C bike and visa versa.

The letter is regarding the size of the tyre.

Go and measure your bike, read this http://www.sheldonbrown.com/tire-sizing.html , come back and start again.

    Tom.

    p.s Prepare for mockery.

No, TomBurtonArt, you prepare for mockery. Since when is a 700C wheel 700mm or nearly 28 inches? Surley everyone knows they are 622mm, which is smaller than a 27" rim... Take your own advice, and read the article you posted. C does not refer to the size of the tyre either. The tyre is a seperare pair of numbers. For instance, a wheel of size 700C is 622mm diameter. The tyre would then be 700 x 23mm or, sometimes 700 x 23C or even 700C2. The tyre in question would then be for a 700C rim, with a width of 23mm.

650C is a smaller size, used on smaller bikes and the front of some TT bikes (often called lo-pro's because of the lower front end due to the smaller rim)

650C is 571mm diameter, and follows the same sort of referencing as 700c. I.e. you could buy a tyre oc 650 x 23C

I hope this helps. Also, check all this for yourself. Read Sheldons page, and don't take my post as fact.

A few other things, 27" is a now obsolete size, slightly larger than 700C.
26" is common on mountain bikes
and a 29er is not a rim of 29" diameter, but a 700C rim designed to take super wide tyres. It is called a 29er because the diameter of the whole wheel is often around 29 inches when it is fully pumped up.

    Anyway...
You probably need a 700c, once you have checked and are sure I can offer you this

Front (odd) Shimano 600 Ultegra hub on Mavic Open Sup rim, very good condition - £25 + £7 p&p (tyre is knackered and will be removed)

  • did you sell him the wheel in the end?

  • No but someone else had it though.
