mate, you just helped the theft to try and nick more part of it now by advertising it here in the forum.

that assumes the thief reads lfgss....

I'm sure we've been there already

best not to assumed that they're stupid.

@edscoble -what's better to assume that a fixed/ss rider reads this forum and might get most of their bike back by simply unlocking it, or worrying that a thief might read this forum and go for it? If I left my bike locked up thinking it would be fine for 3 days in one of the busiest streets in london, I'd appreciate a heads up if parts started going awol. the bike is now of less use to a thief anyway as he'd have to spend time getting it back to a saleable condition.

Not assuming they're stupid, but thats a pretty paranoid angle to take. Bike thieves are largely opportunists, doubt they're gonna make a journey for some pedals. Which is pretty much all thats left.

The only thing of value for me at the moment would be the D-lock, but I'd need to lure the owner in with the key first.

i'm not. i'm assuming that the theft is taking part bit by bit and is in fact being perpetrated by magpie like thieves.
rather than a full on rob the bastard now type thief.or indeed assuming that there's a network of thieves out there trawling this site over and above another site. or that they're indeed trawling bike sites and not just nicking shiny nice looking stuff that doesn't appear to be owned by anyone.

take a picture of you (balaclavaed up) holding a key, next to the bike. post it on here. wait.

this is my flyer. thing is, i hadn't left it there for three days, that's just where i park it whilst i'm at work. i take the front wheel off cos it's quick release.
yesterday some c*nt stole the handlebars.
anyone else had problems recently in soho? they took my brake lever the other week. royally cheesed off. i can't exactly leave it anywhere more public..
cheers for the heads up by the way!

Front brake only SS?...

Front brake only SS?...
I propose instaban for anyone who uses this phrase. Talk about a dead horse.

I propose instant banning of front brake only ss riders.
rossi: Should could do some work towards stopping part theft by fitting parts and filling the allen key ends with glue or ball bearings, etc. There's some threads on here already about theft-prevention of parts. If you're leaving your bike out there all day it's all you can do. I would also start investigating alternative parking places, maybe have a word with the boss or whatever to see if there's some place you can leave it in the office/school whatever.

better horse than rider.
At the top of carnaby street there is a white genesis flyer, with a mini D loc on it - decals removed, approx 55 cm being slowly taken apart. it's been there for 3 days and today the front wheel and handlebars were removed it's got a carbon seatpost and double freewheel at the back. if it's yours get it back before it's all gone!
