Is it just me or are those Hold Fast straps things really shit?
I've been using clipless for a while - which I know are much better. But now on one bike I'm rockin' those fat strap things with flat bmx pedals, and while the pedals are fine, I'm sure that the strap things are worse than old school clips.
User error, maybe?

noob ebay etiquette question: if you put something up on a 10 day auction with no BIN and someone makes you an offer to end the auction early... can you? should you? what's the rules?
-
• #8255
you set a buy it now, and tell the offerer(?) so he can BIN
you can always alter your listing -

really? so it's cool to add one after the auction's already underway? just thinking if i was watching something on a 10 day, not really expecting it to not get interesting for another week or so and next time i came back to see what's up, the terms had changed and it'd gone by BIN to someone else... i'd be a bit annoyed.

it's not neccessarlly cool. but the seller has a right to change the auction.

What he said.
And maybe I'm wrong here but I don't think there is much in the way of ebay etiquette. I see it as very much a buyer beware kinda place.
Once you start having a dialogue with someone, then I think normal rules of courtesy come into play.

User error, maybe?why?
I'm just suprised that's all.
There seems to be so much movement in my right one, which isn't as tight so I can get my foot in and out. On the left I do it up tight and it's fine but don't take my foot out until the end of the journey.
Also in terms of upward flex they don't seem great either.
A fair few ppl use this style of foot retention and I just wondered if it was me, or if they were actually as poor in comparison to clipless as I seem to think.

If I want something that badly I always email the seller and see if he's prepared to end early for a set price. Mainly because other people have done this to me before when I've been patiently waiting to bid on something.

Why, when I tighten the bolt on my cinelli stem does it not grip my cinelli bars properly?
What can I do, shim? There appears to be no rubber insert that I assume should be there (familiarity with cinelli stem shown there).

26 stem 25.4 bars?

• #8264
Is it a 1R?
They are pretty, but not much good. -
• #8265
cool thanks. i checked the official rules of play and they say it's fine unless there are actual bids on the table in which case you can't anyway so job's a goodun'. thanks.

Is it an Older Cinelli? If so it could be 26.4mm
Cinelli changed over to 26.0 mm in 1998 according to the bike god...

Re:Cinelli
It's not a 1R.
It was done up before, I think the bars match the stem as they were all together before I loosened the bolt to raise the hoods a little.

do you want someone stronger to come and nip it up for you?

I think I do.
Perhaps I could post videos and pictures of it.

Not the greatest of help, but I’m certain I’ve read of this problem before on here. Sort of eliminates ~~ user-error ~~...

Why, when I tighten the bolt on my cinelli stem does it not grip my cinelli bars properly?
Because there is just one coarse pitch screw holding the whole thing together, and also trying to bend a pretty thick piece of aluminium too. They always slipped when they were new, they always slip now, and they will always slip in the future. Put some carbon assembly paste in there to give it the best chance, lube the threads and under the nut flange/bolt head, and use a torque wrench to guide you into that sweet spot between tight enough to hold it most of the time and not so tight that you snap the bolt. The fasteners are made of cheese, so I'd be cautious about going past 12Nm*. Or just buy a modern 4-bolt stem - there's a reason why designs change over time.
*If it was supposed to have a bit of rubber in the kerf, it sounds like a XA, in which case you can replace the binder bolt with a high quality (12.9) M8x1.25 screw from a hardware store, which will take more torque to break than the stem body will stand...
