  • Am fully aware that stainless steel rusts, etc. Was wondering if there is any damage likely to occur if various bike parts (for the most part aluminium, titanium and plastic) and tools are kept in a shed. At present I have too many bits cluttering up one corner of the kitchen, there is a shed at the bottom of the garden. The shed isbasically dry but gets very cold and damp in winter.

Is there any good reason to not keep them out there?

  • Pack them in a tool box first.

  • My dad stores his stuff in a snap on "tool box". No problems there.

  • If only there was some sort of common box type structure to stall tools in. I bet if someone made that they would be onto a winner.

  • Was probably being over anxious re torque wrench and other precision bits. Will ask for toolbox for Christmas.

  • Cold is not an issue; damp is. Put your tools in a sealed container if possible - i use a tupperware box.

  • Investigate the purchasing of large quantities of silica gel and fill your shed with these. Refresh them on a weekly basis, at the same time you are coating your tools in linseed oil for its preservative qualities and inspecting the tools for any signs of damage. By the third trimester you should have some healthy..

  • DJ, shut up and go ride your bike.

    nasty man.

  • Do Rapha make shed liners?

  • Do Rapha make shed liners?

    whollop !!

  • if you gently roll each tool in cotton wool, then in lightly oiled greasproof paper and place them in an old drawer with pots of salt in it, they will last forever - or you could do what I do and chuck 'em in a heap in the corner!!! Never han one fail me yet (apart from through misuse!)

    Someone will steal them ?

  • In the corner of the kitchen. This is where they belong to.

  • I use the spare room in my flat for spannering and storing of bike paraphernalia, this of course is of no use to youse.

  • What are you going to do with the pedestriansvictims that you currently keep in the shed?

  • Insulate the shed, install a lamp, heater and armchair and you have a smoking room free from disturbance which happily also provides a warm dry storage area for your tools.

    I really want a shed.

  • like this?

  • My grandad had a shed with in a shed. Now that is pimpin'.

  • Have you thought of shrink wrapping it?

  • Pop to homebase buy a toolbox. Use said toolbox. Tools will be fine. Parts won't rust. No worries.

    oh and UTFB.

  • Always store pants in the top drawer.

  • So tommy's Grandad has been visited by the old x to tha zee bit
